University of Western Ontario Selects Roaring Penguin Software's CanIt-PRO Anti-Spam Solution To Stop Spam on Campus

University protecting 50,000 student, staff and faculty e-mail accounts from offensive e-mail thanks to CanIt-PRO.

Ottawa, ON (PRWEB) March 7, 2006 -- The University of Western Ontario (UWO) has chosen Roaring Penguin Software’s CanIt-PRO anti-spam solution to fight e-mail spam on its London, Ontario campus. CanIt-PRO is now providing relief from e-mail spam and viruses to to 50,000 student, faculty and staff e-mail accounts.

“At Western, 70 to 80 percent of e-mail hitting our mail servers is spam” explains Eric Cartman, Systems Administrator for UWO. “Before using CanIt-PRO, we were using an open-source filter to block the junk e-mail. Despite a great deal of time and effort, spam was still getting past our filters. We decided that we needed something a little tougher and something that required less daily attention.”

UWO evaluated CanIt-PRO as an alternative to its open-source solution. “During the evaluation period, we found that CanIt-PRO was helping us in three big ways,” said Cartman. “Not only was less spam getting through but the time I was spending on spam-related work went down dramatically. Also, we saw that we were able to offer users more robust filtering and quarantine options.”

Cartman estimates that prior to installing CanIt-PRO he would spend 30% of his day adminstering his spam solution. “Now, I spend a third of that time,” Cartman beams. “And my time is spent much more productively. We've modified CanIt-PRO's interface to match the look and feel of our website, and we're continuing to add some custom features to adapt the system to our particular environment.”

CanIt-PRO can be purchased as a software or appliance-based solution and is ideal for education campuses, ISPs and large organizations where global filtering policies must be balanced with individuals’ ability to have the final decision over what is and is not spam. CanIt™ products offer the industry's most complete and flexible anti-spam and anti-virus solutions. They can be deployed in any enterprise e-mail environment, including on all Linux and UNIX servers. As a stand-alone gateway appliance, CanIt can protect e-mail environments running non-UNIX servers, such as Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes and Novell Groupwise. A price quote for CanIt or CanIt-PRO can be obtained at www.roaringpenguin.com/promo/canitpricequote.php?id=campus.
