Net Applications, a provider of web-based applications that measure, monitor and market websites for Small to Medium Enterprises (SME), today announced its monthly website browser usage statistics for February 2006.

February 2006 browser usage market share numbers provided by HitsLink show a return to growth for both Firefox and Safari. Firefox inches ever so close to a critical mass of 10% market share, ending the month at 9.75%. With momentum back on its side could March be the month they finally cross into double digit market share?

We surveyed our market share site visitor base with the question: "Which browser is better?" The options of Netscape, Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera were provided to visitors in a random order for each survey taker. And, the survey says...

Firefox is overwhelmingly considered the best browser available on the market today, with just under 50% of the voters choosing it. Add surveys to your website from

Also making browser market share news, Apple Safari recovered nicely from suffering its first market share loss in over a year during January. February showed Safari jumping past its pre-January number of 3.07% to 3.13% market share.

While Opera Software's Opera browser held steady with its usage market share, it appears Opera will be dominating the portable device market. Opera is already available for phones and handheld computers. They also offer a device that allows you to browse the internet from your TV. One of the key features of Opera is that it resizes the browser window dynamically to fit whatever device you are using. And, soon (expected in June) Opera will even be available on the Nintendo DS. The device browsing market is expected to grow significantly in the next couple of years. And, Opera is poised to own that market.
