After receiving an undergraduate degree in engineering in Baghdad, Shant Kenderian went on to complete his Ph.D. in the United States. There, he joined a NASA team in the aftermath of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster and helped investigate the cause of the disaster and make improvements.
