An Iraqi Soldier's Personal Memoir is Flying off the Virtual Shelves on Amazon.com
In 1001 Nights in the Iraqi Army, Shant Kenderian recounts his experiences serving in the Iraqi army and his eventual escape from Saddam’s regime
PASADENA, CALIFORNIA, (PRWEB) March 4, 2006 -- In this inspirational memoir, 1001 Nights in the Iraqi Army, Shant Kenderian shares fascinating stories about his time serving in the Iraqi army, his eventual escape from Saddam’s regime and his struggles to reunite with his family in America.
“Register for the army within 72 hours or be shot!” This was the choice Saddam Hussein gave to all males between the ages of 18 and 55 that resided in Iraq during the 1980 war with Iran and later during the invasion of Kuwait. At the time a high school senior who had grown up in Chicago, Shant Kenderian happened to be visiting his father in Iraq, his land of birth, and found himself forced to serve in the front lines in Saddam’s military.
1001 Nights in the Iraqi Army is the true story of Shant’s perseverance and determination to survive and reunite with his family in America despite the many obstacles that stand in his way, many of which prove to be near-death experiences. After years of service with the Iraqi army, Shant finally catches a break when the boat he is assigned to crashes and he is captured by Americans at sea. However, once in America he faces the harsh reality of military interrogation as a prisoner of war (POW) and is transferred to various camps instead of quickly reestablishing his American Green Card status as he had hoped.
Although tragic and sad, Shant’s story is sprinkled with humor and written in a style guaranteed to drag any reader in. 1001 Nights in the Iraqi Army gives readers insight into war from the other side, deepening one’s understanding of events in the middle east then and now. Shant’s true life memoir is a must-read for anyone remotely interested in politics, Desert Storm, Iraq or the American Dream.
