Approximately 500 delegates are expected to attend the meeting.

Global financial markets leaders and other high-level executives will meet in Manila in May this year for the 45th ACI World Congress, ACI Philippines president Jose Emmanuel Hilado announced.

Approximately 500 executives are expected to attend the Congress. ACI Philippines, which is hosting the event, is the local member association of ACI — known as The Financial Markets Association in English. ACI is considered the premiere global association of wholesale financial market professionals. It has affiliated national associations in 64 countries worldwide and a growing number of individual members.

The annual ACI World Congress is organized as part of ACI’s mission to contribute to market development through education and dissemination of best market practices, technical advice and networking events. For over four decades, the World Congress has served as a venue for key players and stakeholders in the global financial markets to network, exchange ideas and best practices, and shape the direction of the industry in response to current trends and other factors.

Scheduled May 25-27, the 45th ACI World Congress will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center. “This year’s congress carries the theme ‘Rising to the Challenge,’” said Jose Arnulfo Veloso, chairman of the 45th ACI World Congress Organizing Committee. “We find the theme very timely, as it highlights the new challenges that we face each day in our evolving business environment.”

“The market has never been as dynamic as it is today. For this reason, this year’s World Congress will focus on regulatory, political, economic and social challenges that have transformed the way we do business, and which we predict will continue to affect the markets we serve in the future,” said Hilado. Veloso added that the Organizing Committee has arranged presentations that will identify and address these challenges as well as panel discussions to be facilitated by internationally prominent experts.

Highlights of the conference program include keynote presentations by Stuart Gulliver, chief executive for Corporate, Investment Banking, and Markets at HSBC Holdings, and Dow Kim, president for Global Markets and Investment Banking for Merrill Lynch.

Panel discussions will consider rationalizing credit rating agencies, global interest rates and capital markets, the evolution of currencies from fixed to floating/national to regional, and regulatory issues in today’s fast-changing financial markets landscape.

Confirmed moderators and panelists include TRG Management Hong Kong Ltd.’s Cezar Consing, Credit Suisse First Boston’s vice chairman for Non-Japan Asia Lito Camacho, Bloomberg columnist William Pesek, and ACI honorary president David Clark.

The business conference will be complemented by social activities, including cocktails at the Ayala Museum and the Coconut Palace; a Fiesta Filipina night at the Westin Philippine Plaza, which will include a cultural presentation sponsored by the Department of Tourism; and a Gala Dinner and Dance at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel. “The annual Congress is also an opportunity to renew the friendship that we, ACI members worldwide, have built through the years,” said Veloso.

The 45th ACI World Congress is being organized by marketing consultancy and events management firm TeamAsia with the support of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the Bankers Association of the Philippines, and the local banking community.
