Over the past six months Olivia, editor of the popular online women's lifestyle magazine Savvy Women Magazine, has been busily compiling a list of the Top 10 Favorite Women's Movies Of All Time. You can browse the list of the 10 finalists, in no particular order, here: http://www.savvy-women-magazine.com/Lifestyle/womens-favorite-movies.html.
Olivia asked the readers of her magazine to write to her online and list their Top 10 Favorite Movies. She was so overwhelmed by the response, and the diversity of choices, that she decided she would simply publish the most popular movies in no particular order.
"I was truly inspired by the number of women who contributed to this list, and the range of movies suggested -- from the ultimate tear-jerkers to cutting-edge indie films -- was staggering.
"I didn't feel it was within my capabilities to pass final judgement on the movies that were nominated, so I simply tallied up the numbers and the films with the most votes made it on to the list."
Now Olivia is turning her attention to "Chick-Lit" and wants to compile a list of the Top 10 All Time Favorite Women's Novels, which she hopes to publish on her website by the end of April.
"Women are interested in what other women are reading, with local community book clubs and popular groups like Oprah's Book Club actively encouraging women to expand their horizons by offering a wide genre of books for the sheer pleasure of reading," says Olivia. "But I don't really believe in the tag 'Chick-Lit'. In a way I think it's derogatory because it seems to infer that women only want to read mushy, romantic nonsense when in fact that's not the case at all."
Olivia describes herself as a voracious reader who reads "anything and everything I can get my hands on!"
She's excited by the prospect that the final 10 choices will be voted on from her global network of female readers. "Visitors to my website come from all parts of the world. I'm hoping that I can encourage women everywhere to participate so we can get a global perspective.
"I think it will be an interesting exercise and maybe we'll be able to dispel a few myths along the way about what women like to read."
To cast your vote, simply log on to Olivia's website at http://www.savvy-women-magazine.com and you'll be directed to the Entry Form from the Home Page. You can vote for one all-time favorite or you can cast a hundred votes, as long as they're the books you love, Olivia doesn't mind.
And one lucky contributor will win a $50 Fashion Jewelry Gift Certificate when the survey is completed.
Olivia hopes to announce the winner on her website in the May edition of Savvy Women Magazine.
