Home Show visitors will be treated to a special first time ever tour of the latest in new products for the home. Their guide in the special “New Products of Distinction Suite” will be Leslie Segrete, designer and carpenter of TLC’s While You Were Out and co-host of The Money Pit, a nationally syndicated decorating and home improvement radio talk show. This user-friendly exhibit features exciting and many never before seen new products chosen personally by Segrete, and is presented by the Show and Distinction Magazine.
The Sweet Learning Suite with TLC’s While You Were Out Designer John Bruce
John Bruce, famous for his visionary surprise makeover designs on TLC’s While You Were Out, will be in the aptly named “Sweet Learning Suite.” He will present the latest trends in home improvement and décor and offer creative ways to add a designer touch to any home. On Saturday the first 25 children between the ages of 9 and 14 to visit the Sweet Learning Suite will have a chance to work alongside John to create Cool Shades - decorative lampshades that they can bring home.
Interior Decorating for Dummies Authors Provide Solutions to Design Dilemmas
Patricia Hart McMillan and Katharine Kaye McMillan made home décor simple with their best-selling book, Interior Decorating for Dummies. Now they will be at the Show, signing copies of this user-friendly DIY handbook and offering practical and money-saving tips to visitors. They will be running fun, hands-on sessions where they will provide ideas on space planning, window treatments, furniture selection and home accessories.
World Record Holder to Build Harry Potter Inspired Castle with Cards and Chocolate
Bryan Berg has traveled the world, building gravity-defying structures from nothing but playing cards, some as high as twenty-five feet tall. This international sensation, architect and designer holds two Guinness Book of World Records for the largest and tallest structures using playing cards. With patience and precision, Berg will build a masterpiece inspired by Hogwarts Castle from the Harry Potter book series and films, right in front of Show visitors – the twist? He will build it entirely from tens of thousands of playing card and thousands of chocolate bars.
Charity Begins at Home
“Home Sweet Home” is more than just the theme of the 2006 Spring Long Island Home Improvement and Remodeling Expo. For many families it represents the ultimate dream of owning a home. The Home Show is teaming up with the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, Long Island Builders Institute, Empire State Regional Council of Carpenters and the Nassau Coliseum to support Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to help a local family realize this dream. At the Show, volunteers from these organizations will be taking turns constructing the basic frame of a home, right outside the main entrance to the Show.
