Mosquero Resident Survives Apocalypse in Houston Author’s Futuristic Novel

The Brown Hotel & Cafe in Springer, New Mexico, will host a book signing event Saturday, March 18, 2006, with VIOLENT NIGHT author Byron Justice. The event runs 7-10 a.m. Justice featured northeastern New Mexico in the novel.

HOUSTON, TX (PRWEB) March 11, 2006 -- Oscar Gonzalez, a fictional character from Mosquero, New Mexico, survives the Apocalypse in the gripping Christian adventure, Violent Night, by Houston author Byron Justice.

Justice, Scoutmaster of Houston’s Boy Scout Troop 1197, visits northeastern New Mexico frequently with his Scouts. In the spring of 1993, his troop was stranded by a vehicle breakdown in Springer. The Chamber of Commerce in Springer gave the troop a tour of Philmont Scout Ranch and the New Mexico State Boys’ School in a borrowed school bus. A local merchant opened the arcade in his tavern for the boys, and the Scouts were allowed to camp in the city park.

The hospitality of northeastern New Mexico made a lasting impression on Justice and his troop, and the area is featured in the novel as a tribute.

Thirteen years later, Justice recalls the experience:

The gentleman at the Chamber of Commerce in Springer dropped everything to make us feel welcome. He told the boys that if they waved at cars as they were going down the highway, it was customary for people from New Mexico to wave back. We still do that to this day. And sure enough, the ones who wave back have New Mexico plates.

In the world of Violent Night, apocalyptic catastrophes split the world into three parts: The Other Side, a place of tranquility, where evil has no foothold; The Place of Judgment, a lonely world where the laws of physics and time do not apply; and The Forsaken World, where humans wage a desperate struggle for survival amid the barren ruins of the Apocalypse. One chapter is titled “Mosquero”; the New Mexico town is part of both The Place of Judgment and The Other Side.

Justice will visit New Mexico for a book signing on Saturday morning, March 18, 2006. The event will be hosted by the Brown Hotel & Café in Springer from 7:00-10:00 a.m. A 25% discount on the book will be offered with purchase of breakfast at the Brown.
