“ . . . . And They Will Be Led By A Child!”

Lellow, The Education of My Mom, a recent BookSurge publication, offers insight into the life of a child with cancer and the family that cares for him

Charleston, South Carolina (PRWEB) March 11, 2006 -- Anyone who has been privileged to be a parent or who has enjoyed the company of a child will share the joys, frustrations, and tears of a parent caring for a special needs or a sick child. This book gives the reader an enlightening glimpse of one shining star’s path from the heavens above through the veil of this brief life and back to light the evening sky. It is a guidebook of empowering faith and stamina in the face of unending difficulties. Yet, “the mountains are made low and the valleys are raised to make straight paths for ‘our’ feet” through the matter-of-fact discussions about the power of the human mind and spirit to endure and overcome impossibilities the size of Mt. Everest. Though this is not a “pity party fest,” one cannot help but shed a few tears in recognition of the child’s great love for the mother and his wish to give back to her just a little of what she gave to him. One does have to admit that for some, if it’s possible for something to happen --- it will. However, acceptance, gives mankind the greatest freedom of all --- the freedom to choose to be positive and look for ways to accomplish the impossible through determination and faith.

About the Author

Lesli Woodall has spent over 20 years in the information technology area. During the last 9 years, she continued her career while caring for her son who had Neurofibromatosis I and Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum, two neurological disorders, and died in December of 2004 of complications from a rare form of childhood leukemia called JMML - Juvenile Myleomonocytic Leukemia. After her son’s death, Woodall decided to return to college to pursue a masters degree and career in the field of physician’s assistant studies. She credits her son with the inspiration for this vocation and this book and says she found out after his demise that “He was her teacher and she was his student.” She, her husband of 16 years, and their daughter have recently relocated from Atlanta, Georgia to Charleston, South Carolina where she is a PA program student..

By her writings, she encourages other families with children who have special needs or life threatening illnesses to educate themselves and others about their disorders as well as to take an active interest in their loved one’s diagnosis and treatment.

This book is told from the viewpoint of the “impacted child” as she calls him. This was done in an effort to help others learn the lessons she’s learned without having to endure the loss of a dearly loved one to do so. This is the author’s first attempt at writing a book; but if this is any indication of her abilities, readers of all ages will look forward to further attempts --- though with the fervent hope that it won’t be at the expense of further heartache.
