Congressional Candidate Refuses PAC Money
Independent Congressional Candidate Scott Burton (District 3, Oklahoma) announced his 2006 campaign will not accept funds from Political Action Committees. Congressmen are to represent their district, not special interests groups.
Wellston, OK (PRWEB) March 12, 2006 -- Scott Burton, independent candidate for the U.S. Congress Seat for District 3 of Oklahoma declared his campaign will refuse any contribution during this election cycle of money from Political Action Committees (PACs).
Burton insists, “A Congressional Representative, by their very title is to represent the people of their district and their state. Instead politicians are focused more on gaining favor with PACs associated with special interest groups, to receive money for their campaigns. Many pieces of legislation have been enacted over the years which do little for the sake of America, but clutter up our legal code and make special interest groups happy.”
Taxpayers bear the burden of all government programs and spending. The responsibility of those elected is to make certain that the hard earned dollars of the taxpayers are put to good use. The power of the government belongs in the hands of the people, not of special interests and PACs.
Burton is a resident of Wellston, located in Lincoln County Oklahoma, and operates a small farm with his wife and two sons.
Burton believes it is the right of the people to have a voice in government. If our elected representatives don’t represent us, we shouldn’t be re-electing them. “Unless there is a good reason, people do not change.” Burton observed, “So if the same person keeps returning to Congress, we shouldn’t expect them to respond differently than he or she has in the past.”
It is necessary that the United States be made stronger and more secure and remain so. At the same time, our government has made promise and commitments to our seniors, soon to retire, and our veterans just to name a few. For future promises to have merit, we must see these obligations fulfilled.
