As turns one, its new spring line features one-of-a-kind and limited edition wearables, accessories and art that celebrate and reconceive drawings, advertisements and cultural cast asides.

Jenifer Lake, the one-woman design team behind sprout studio, sees the world a bit differently than most people -- pictures from an old children’s book become glass vignettes encircling wrists, vintage and pop culture magazine clippings become part of a collage adorning a bound journal, and buttons of yesteryear’s blazers become a pert row of brown eyed Susan hair pins. Thankfully for the rest of us, she’s been sharing her unique vision and reclaimed jewelry pieces, wearables, accessories, and art online at for a year now.

Launched in March of 2005,, showcases the artistic ponderings of Lake, a long time collector of vintage, quirky, and contemporary magazines, books, manuals and anything else of this world (though not necessarily of this time) that resonates with her. A kindergarten through eighth grade art teacher by day, Lake enjoys creation through reclamation. “I have drawers full of things that I’ve picked up over the years -- things that were discarded or forgotten that struck a chord with me,” she explains. Though her time traveling treasures might lay in wait for years, from the moment she plucks them out, they begin to take on new shape and meaning -- reflecting not so much the world from which they came, but rather the world as seen through Lake’s eyes. “Each piece that I create is kind of like a 'hole punch' on the world; a sampling of my take on a moment in time,” she explains.

It’s precisely this unique glimpse into Lake’s world-view that intrigues her customers. That, and the fact that through her thoughtful product descriptions and musings on her blog,, people really have a sense that they know her. While many online boutiques adopt more of a store-front façade -- maintaining some air of mystery around the artist -- Lake makes a concerted effort to invite people into her studio and her world at “People like that they have a sense of who I am. They can say, ‘that gal who has a dog named Dixie loo-loo, she made this for me, and there isn’t another exactly like it.’”

The spring collection, launched to coincide with the one-year anniversary, includes: one-of-a-kind art collage journals; vintage flower earrings, button rings and hair pins in bold colors like lemon drop and fire engine red; umbrella-themed tees for the ladies; ceramic 'good luck' birdies; and, of course, brand new old faves like glass piece necklaces featuring everything from numerals to moths to intricate drawings; thematic glass piece bracelets; as well as rings and pouches.
