Up and Comers Give Canadian Online Pharmacies a New Shot in the Arm

While Medicare may be luring some seniors to the “D” side, a new group of patients is running to the border for their meds.

Vancouver, B.C. (PRWEB) March 15, 2006 -- There's a new group of patients of online pharmacies emerging, and that spells future growth and success for the drug companies that Plan D was supposed to run out of business.

“High drug prices in the states apply to all Americans young and old. It's a cruel fact,” states Dr. Paul Zickler, founder of DoctorSolve (www.doctorsolve.com) online pharmacy service. “So, it stands to reason that Americans under the age of 65, who are not eligible for Medicare Plan D, need to look outside their own country for affordable meds.”

The popular online pharmacy service has seen a dramatic 27% increase in the number of new patients, most of them between the ages of 45 and 60. “These are savvy consumers who know they can’t rely on the government or company drug plans to provide them with the affordable meds they need now, or in the future,” says Zickler.

Indeed, with Plan D floundering, social security weakening at the knees, and companies cutting back on health plan formularies or canceling plans altogether, the only direction for the cost of medications in the US to go is up. Fidelity Investments, the Boston financial-services company, states that, “along with taxes, health care will be among the largest costs Americans will have to worry about in retirement.” Fidelity estimated that less than half of the population has access to employer-sponsored health care in retirement, and predicted that number would decrease by up to 50% as more companies see health care as too great of a liability. “A couple without employer-sponsored health care during retirement needs to set aside $200,000 to cover the costs after the age of 65.” That’s a staggering figure for most of the American population.

The fact that younger patients are patronizing Canadian online pharmacies would strongly indicate that there is a future for these companies, which have been the crux of much controversy. “A 45-year old patient on a cholesterol-lowering agent buying from us today will have saved $21,000 US by the time he is 85 years old for one medication alone,” states Zickler. “As he ages, his need for different medications increases. Imagine what he will be saving by buying multiple medications online over the next 40 years!”

Zickler cites other medical issues that will play a role in the increasing need for affordable medications. “Right now, patients take a cholesterol-lowering agent to bring their cholesterol down, but as drug companies find other beneficial effects for the same drug, the demand, the numbers of users, and the price will certainly increase. In addition, the growing incidence of diabetes is reaching epidemic proportions, and starting at an earlier age. Eventually, all diabetics will be on cholesterol-lowering agents and blood pressure medication.”

“By the time these DoctorSolve patients are eligible for Plan D, if there is a Plan D, they won’t give it a second glance unless the savings are very, very generous,” Zickler surmises. “They will have reached a comfort level buying safe and affordable medications from reputable online pharmacies. They will have done the math, and made their choice. And we intend to be here for them.”
