Maynard, MA (PRWEB) March 15, 2006
Optical Alchemy, Inc., the leading developer and manufacturer of ultra-light, inertial, stabilized sensor systems for unmanned vehicles, announced the company’s KJ product line delivers multi-mission, Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Target Acquisition (RSTA) Laser Designation capabilities in a single 18-pound gimbaled turret to meet the urgent surveillance and mission needs of the warfighter. In RSTA mode, targets are detected, recognized and tracked. Optical Alchemy is uniquely positioned to address RSTA and other battlefield needs as the company’s KJ product line enables commanders and warfighters in the field to accomplish missions that cannot be served using pan/tilt and gyro-stabilized sensor products used today.
Mid-sized UAVs need to sense and relay multiple types of information (e.g., geolocation, time, coordinates of the target of interest, other information embedded in the image stream)- not just television images- between soldiers on the ground and their commanders. Pan/tilt sensors aim cameras or others sensors at a target but do not automatically remain fixed on a target when the UAV moves, requiring the operator to constantly readjust the sensors to hold a view or image of the target. Gyro-stabilized sensors stay fixed on target while the UAV moves; however, these sensors cannot lock onto the target and provide the exact coordinates of the target in view. Optical Alchemy’s inertially referenced sensors deliver high-precision target coordinates, in a GPS coordinates system, providing soldiers with geospatial information and the exact coordinates of the target’s location.
“Optical Alchemy is leading the way in the evolution and deployment of new, stabilized sensors that are influencing a progression from pan/tilt and inertially stabilized systems, to inertially referenced sensors (i.e., pointing in an absolute 3D space),” said Marc Daigle, President, Optical Alchemy, Inc. “Our small, lightweight and flexible sensor payloads enable Mid-sized UAVs to carry more types of sensors (RSTA, ELINT, COMINT) for multi-mission capabilities. This will dramatically increase persistent surveillance and rapid dissemination of actionable intelligence while enhancing sensor-to-shooter linkage,” Daigle added.
Optical Alchemy’s inertial stabilized sensor provides flexible, configurable payloads including: high resolution IR and visible sensors, LRF, laser marker, laser designator or a user-defined custom sensor suite to enhance force protection and provide on-demand actionable information. By combining multiple capabilities in one sensor payload suite, Optical Alchemy enables retasking to be accomplished in flight without having to land and swap out payloads while dramatically increasing persistence and time-on-station.
About Optical Alchemy, Inc.
Optical Alchemy, Inc. is a developer and manufacturer of ultra-lightweight, high performance stabilized sensor systems for unmanned vehicles. The company’s products will create a new level of persistence, enabling UAVs to dramatically expand mission ranges, save fuel, remain in the air for longer periods of time to patrol vast areas and carry additional sensors and ordinance.
The company’s small, ultra-light high performance stabilized sensor systems offer the payload flexibility, inertial stabilization and high pointing accuracy required for sense and respond missions. Optical Alchemy’s system provides configurable payloads including high resolution IR and visible sensors, laser range finder (LRF), laser marker, laser designator or a user-defined custom sensor suite. Onboard IMU, GPS, digital compass and the inertial control system provide accurate latitude/longitude/elevation pointing and, combined with the LRF, target mapping. The KJ product line will follow open architecture standards such as STANAG 4568 and our IP based architecture supports future net-centric open communications requirements necessary for manned and unmanned vehicle communications needs.
