NEOGOV Helps Alachua County Take the Hassle Out of Hiring

Alachua County government partners with NEOGOV to streamline their hiring process, improve customer service, and effectively attract job applicants.

Alachua County needed to transform its hiring system to more efficiently manage the thousands of job applications they were receiving each year. The current system, developed internally by the County’s ITS-Department, allowed applicants to apply for jobs online, but required that they fill out a new application for each and every position that interested them, which left many frustrated. By modifying their system, Alachua County’s Office of Human Resources hoped to appease current applicants, effectively attract new candidates, improve customer service and implement an application process that used the technology of today’s digital world to fully automate their hiring processes once and for all. To properly maximize the agencies potential, however, the County needed to launch a system that would deliver better information to constituents, while making the actual hiring process easier for candidates and department hiring managers alike.

Alachua found its answer in NEOGOV, a leading provider of on-demand workforce management solutions. According to Kim Baldry, HR Director, the County chose NEOGOV Insight recruitment and applicant tracking system mainly because “it appeared to be almost tailored to our current process, allowing us to go live almost immediately with very few modifications.” Karen Gerding, HR Supervisor, says that the entire organization was “truly amazed at how quickly we began seeing positive results.”

Since implementing their new hiring system, the County has been able to receive more applications online, eliminating the unnecessary paper work and wasted time experienced while using their previous process. Previously the County received approximately 61% of their applications online. Today they are receiving and processing a remarkable 94% of their applications online.

Lawrence Labecki, HR Assistant, feels that the key to their post-NEOGOV success is mainly due to the “improved communication between the hiring departments and applicants.” Labecki explained that their previous process was “Not only manual, but extremely labor intensive.” By automating their process, we are providing a more user-friendly environment for applicants. “We can create and save applications and check on the status of each application throughout the hiring process.” Labecki added, “We just love the system.”

Accepting applications online is not all that Alachua County is using the system for. “We are going to use the NEOGOV system as much as we can,” added Labecki. The HR department is also beginning to employ the convenient automatic minimum qualification screening feature to help identify the qualified applicants. Labecki describes this process as “hours of analysis accomplished with just the hit of a button.”

Thus far, the applicants that Labecki has encountered have been “very impressed with the new process.” Plus, the HR employees working with the new NEOGOV system are saving time, which allows them to spend more time consulting with their departments and interacting with citizens. “It really is a win-win for everyone involved,” adds Labecki. “We’re really excited.”
