Bartender to Circumnavigate in the Smallest Boat for a World Record; Adventure Presented as Daily Video Blog

The Captain Humphreys Project is a daily video blog about a man preparing to sail around the world and capture a world record. The site already contains more than 40 videos and is viewable at www.captainhumphreys.com. The show and its producers are Brightcove beta partners.

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 16, 2006 -- Who would sail around the world in a tiny 11 foot boat and release video of the grueling adventure as a daily internet video blog? The answer: bartender, boat builder, and individualist “Captain” Eric Humphreys.

The story began when yacht skipper Humphreys left the sea behind and headed to Gotham with a girlfriend. When the affair ended he entered New York nightlife as a bartender. But for a man accustomed to the resort lifestyles of Nantucket, Hawaii and St. Croix, the go-go New York pace seemed expensive and tiring. So he decided it was time to return to the sea to set a world record on an odyssey of self-discovery.

He is sharing his experiences planning the adventure in funny daily video blogs of which there are more than 40 available at www.captainhumphreys.com. After he is underway, the website will continue to show the unfolding adventure and the unpredictable challenges he faces.

The Captain will build his boat himself: an integral part of the show. Layovers in exotic ports-of-call will be part of the program; the Captain will visit some beautiful locales where he will fix his boat, decompress and search for the women of his dreams.

Captain Humphreys is a pilot, skipper, shipwright, scuba diver, demolition derby winner, paramedic and marine electronics technician. He has years of oceangoing experience and has been tested in extreme conditions, including being shipwrecked and lost at sea. About the ordeal he says, “It ended when the John F. Kennedy battle group practically ran us over and saved our lives at the same time.”

He got partners: Robert O’Connor, brother of the late actor Carroll O’Connor, and David O’Connor. They signed the Captain with their production company and brought on Glenn Herman, a former fortune 5 technology executive.

The show and its producers are Brightcove Beta Partners. Th daily videos are viewable with the Brightcove player on the website and also on Google Video, Youtube.com and Ifilm.com. The show has been favorably reviewed by Rocketboom.com and on BusinessWeek online.

The Captain Humphreys Project is new media for the new medium. All aboard for the adventure of a lifetime at www.captainhumphreys.com.

Humphreys available for interviews; B-roll available; coverage invited.
