2006 Sign Language Film Showcase Features ASL Films

2006 Sign Language Film Showcase features ASL Films.

Foxboro, MA (PRWEB) March 17, 2006 -- National Institute for Education through Visual Arts, a nonprofit organization, is proud to announce the first 2006 Sign Language Film Showcase to be held on April 23 at the Orpheum Theater in Foxboro, Mass. The showcase will feature six films in sign language, including award-winning short films from deaf filmmakers.

A major feature at the showcase is the world’s first computer-generated cartoon in sign language, Pedro’s Dream. The film, made for the World Federation of the Deaf convention in Spain, features Pedro, a little deaf boy who encounters frustration in a world that isn’t equipped to meet his needs. He slips into a daydream in where the world is perfect, but not without a big surprise.

Another notable film is the multiple-award winning Audism Unveiled, an astonishing and mind-opening documentary that has been called the most revealing film about Deaf culture. With unusual clarity and intelligence, this film uncovers the stunning truth of the devastating effect of audism. Also shown will be Sound and Fury, an Oscar-nominated documentary about a family who struggles with the decisions of having their deaf children receive cochlear implants.

Following exhibition of the films, there will be a catered reception provided by the prestigious Lafayette House Restaurant. During the reception, people will be able to sample fine food and mingle with some of the filmmakers behind the films exhibited.

People are encouraged to purchase tickets online to avoid long lines and to ensure ticket availability. Tickets are available for $20.00 by visiting www.aslculture.org and clicking on “events.”
