Suffern, NY (PRWEB) March 18, 2006 -- General Patent Corporation International (GPCI), a leading patent licensing and enforcement firm, announced today on behalf of its client, Scieran Technologies, Inc. of Mission Viejo, Cal., that it has settled a patent infringement lawsuit brought by Scieran against Bausch & Lomb Incorporated of Rochester, NY (Bausch & Lomb).

GPCI represents Scieran Technologies in the licensing and enforcement of US Patents 6,629,986 and 6,258,111, and brought a patent infringement suit against Bausch & Lomb in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware (04-1319). The complaint sought damages and a permanent injunction against Bausch & Lomb for the sale of its disposable high-speed vitrectomy cutters used in ophthalmic surgery. Bausch & Lomb ultimately agreed to settle the lawsuit.

The law firm of O'Connor Christensen & McLaughlin LLP of Irvine, Cal. represented Scieran Technologies as litigation counsel.

“We are happy to have reached an amicable settlement for our client,” said Paul Lerner, GPCI’s Sr. Vice President and General Counsel, “and we thank Ed O'Connor and Craig McLaughlin at O'Connor Christensen & McLaughlin for vigorously prosecuting this case in court.”

“We enjoyed working with General Patent in obtaining this settlement for Scieran Technologies,” said Ed O’Connor, lead counsel in the case.

“I am absolutely delighted with the results of this settlement,” said Rod Ross, President of Scieran Technologies and the inventor of the patents-in-suit. “I look forward to working with General Patent in the future to license the technology we developed and to enforce these patents.”
