Corrugated Card Replacement to Revolutionise the Point of Sale Industry
A UK based Point of Sale specialists are set to launch a revolutionary material that will change the face of Point of Sale on a global scale.
(PRWEB) March 19, 2006 -- A UK based Point of Sale specialists are getting set to launch a revolutionary material that will change the face of Point of Sale, perhaps on a global scale.
For 2 years, XPO Innovate based in Leeds, UK, have been researching and developing a material that will replace corrugated card in the manufacturing of POS units and it seems they are almost ready to tell the industry about it.
To spend 2 years developing an alternative to corrugated card you may think seems a little futile since every brand and retailer seems to be quite happy to invest millions into corrugated every year. However, more and more industry experts seem to be concurring that corrugated card POS displays simply cannot withstand the forces of the modern shopping environment. Trolleys, cleaner’s mops and customer’s feet can reduce a pristine looking corrugated display to a tatty mess in a matter of weeks.
Huge efforts have been made by the peddlers of corrugated POS to work around the problems they face. Plastic trays have been added around the bottom of displays for extra protection, plastic edge strips to prevent bending and fraying have been added and recently retailers have even taken to raising displays onto wooden palettes to keep the display out of harms way – not very attractive.
While all these inventive measures have had varying degrees of success they fail to deal with the problem itself. Corrugated card is simply not suitable for displaying products for more than a couple of weeks.
XPO Innovate have always pitched against corrugated card displays with more expensive polymer based units, encouraging retailers and brands to simply change their graphics rather than the entire stand and they have had a degree of success in this area, stealing high profile clients like Gillette and Shell away from their traditional corrugated suppliers.
However, it would appear that XPO have just protected the rights to a recyclable material that lasts 10 times longer than corrugated card but crucially, costs the same. Not only this, but it has also been suggested that the new material will have a better print finish than corrugated card which traditionally absorbs lots of ink.
An XPO Innovate spokesperson stated:
“Yes, there is something very exciting to be announced by the Company Directors in the next few days but until then we are all sworn to secrecy. All I can say is that it is set to be very big indeed.’
