Expert from online university says every aspect of higher education to undergo fundamental change

The increasing prominence of the Internet and other forces are creating fundamental changes in every aspect of higher education, Dr. Edward Gould, Ed.D., told attendees of Innovations 2006, the annual conference of the League for Innovation in the Community College. By the year 2015, 12 to 15 percent of all learners will be fully online, he said, and higher education will have witnessed the rise of a new generation of technologically savvy and more diverse faculty and administrators.

“Future community college leaders must navigate their institutions through the chaos resulting from swiftly changing technology, consumerism, economics, legislation and workforce turnover,” said Dr. Gould, faculty director for higher education and corporate programs at Capella University, an accredited* online university that helped pioneer online education. “To succeed, leaders will need to embrace technological savoir-faire, communicate effectively, think ‘outside of the box’ and rapidly espouse change.”

Dr. Gould is a noted speaker on the trends and challenges of higher education and higher education leadership. His extensive experience includes leadership positions in online education institutions and with California’s network of 108 community colleges.
