Host-based IPS software extends security capabilities of ZENworks Suite.

Third Brigade (, a software company that specializes in host-based intrusion prevention systems (IPS), today announced Third Brigade Deep Security 4 is integrated with Novell ZENworks. It complements and extends other components of the Novell ZENworks Suite by providing policy-driven control and risk mitigation of Linux (including SuSE Enterprise 9i), Windows and Solaris endpoints.

“Third Brigade’s intrusion prevention software can help customers further extend their enterprise security capabilities,” said Alan Murray, Vice President, Product Management at Novell. “The integration of Third Brigade Deep Security with Novell ZENworks is designed to help users protect critical endpoints from attacks which are occurring more frequently and causing increased damage.”

Novell ZENworks automates and enforces business and IT management processes across the lifecycle of desktops, laptops, servers and handhelds to control costs, ensure security and compliance, and optimize the value of IT assets across diverse server and client platforms. Third Brigade’s intrusion prevention software extends the security capabilities of ZENworks Suite by allowing customers to create and enforce comprehensive security policies that:

  •     proactively protect critical applications, sensitive data, and hosts;
  •     help ensure regulatory compliance;
  •     protect and enhance revenues and service continuity;
  •     reduce IT operating costs and save time.

“Intrusion prevention is a critical component of a defense-in-depth strategy for enterprises,” said Wael Mohamed, President and CEO of Third Brigade, Inc. “ZENworks customers that need to provide the strongest protection for critical servers, including custom web applications, as well as sensitive data and other hosts, now have a seamless solution. Third Brigade Deep Security is non-intrusive, and is dramatically smaller, faster and simpler to use, making it the ideal IPS for Novell ZENworks customers.”

Traditional perimeter defenses such as network-based IPS, firewalls and anti-virus can be readily bypassed by intruders and insiders, and don’t stop attacks that routinely exploit vulnerabilities in commercial and custom software, including operating systems, and web applications. These attacks are becoming more sophisticated, numerous and damaging, and with zero-day attacks becoming more inevitable, patch management alone won’t protect these systems. Host-based IPS allows organizations to gain greater control of their business.
