Davka Corporation announces the release of iDaven, a Hebrew prayer companion for the iPod. iDaven displays each prayer in clear Hebrew text on a white background. The software includes the Hebrew text of the afternoon and evening prayers, as well as the grace after meals and the traveler’s prayer.

iDaven (‘daven’ is the Yiddish word for prayer) consists of hundreds of high-quality picture files that are loaded to the user’s computer. After synchronizing with the iPod, the pictures appear as clear Hebrew text in the user’s iPod photo library.

iDaven is compatible with iPod Photo, 5th generation iPod models, and the iPod Nano and costs $19.95. It is available at bookstores in the US, Israel and Europe, and from http://www.davka.com/prwid.

Michael Gartenberg at Jupiter Research highlighted iDaven in a recent blog entry: "Getting around the iPod's lack of support for Hebrew, the program cleverly uses newer iPods' ability to display graphics to create a flip book that's easily scrolled through." He then asked, "Any doubt left that the iPod is a platform?"

According to Susan Schwartz, President of Davka Corporation, the program is perfect for mobile Jewish professionals, students and anyone else on the move.

"People on the go often find themselves in situations where they need a prayer book during the day, whether to recite the grace after meals after a quick lunch, to daven afternoon prayers after a business meeting, or even to say the traveler’s prayer before takeoff," she says.

"Carrying a prayer book around in a briefcase or purse isn't always easy or practical," she continues, "but now that these prayers are available in Hebrew on an iPod, keeping to a Jewish religious lifestyle is so much more convenient."
