Musical Product Placement Introduced by Movie Records in Indie Films

Musical branding finds film producers and a record company scratching each others' backs while creating PR values.

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) March 23, 2006 -- While major advertisers currently invest about $4 billion per annum in product placement in TV and films and the record industry has for years spent millions on record promotion, (frequently getting their wrists slapped by the law for payola) Movie Records, a new label specializing in sound track releases, based in Toronto and Los Angeles, has come up with a novel method to cross promote films and records by means of a “musical product placement.”

Instead of simply releasing film scores, Movie Records arranges with the independent film producer to give visual exposure in the film to the recording artist or group which then also contributes to the film score. If possible, the musical performer or group gets written into the story but if not feasible, then a relevant musical number is created that relates to a scene in the film and becomes a music video. This music video then gets exposure in the film. It may run before or after the closing titles of the film or wherever appropriate.

Then, before the film is released, Movie records releases the album and music video, which is clearly linked to the film. These musical entities pre-promote the film. Conversely, the artists’ exposure in the film subsequently promotes the artist when the film is released. The promotional value to both the artists and the film can become invaluable.

For the film, “The Horror of Surpanaka,” in development by Veni Vici Entertainment Inc., Movie Records is creating a new show band named “The Hellions of Hades,” which will be featured in the horror film with three music videos. The Hellions CD will be released two months before the release of the film which will be early in 2007.

Another new group, named “Ackshun,” a high energy rock group, is being created for the film, “Dangerous Days for Dragon Dancer Vigilantes,” in development by KiX PiX. Here music videos will be lifted from martial arts fight scenes. The group itself may go on the road with tumblers who will perform acrobatics on stage while the group wails. Other such deals by Movie Records are now at the discussion stage.

In certain, cases, as above, new musical entities will be created for musical product placement, in others, established artists may take advantage of the promotional opportunities to become a musical product placement in a feature film.
