More Locations, More Jobs at the Inland Empire Diversity Career and Job Fair

The Inland Empire Career Diversity Career & Job Fairs will reach about 12,000 people; seeking work, and help about 320 business and education recruiters find the employees the need.

San Bernardino, CA (PRWEB) March 23, 2006 -- The Inland Empire Career Diversity Career & Job Fair, matching employers and employees for 12 years, began with two days of recruiting, but this year alone they’ll present eight diversity job fairs, reaching about 12,000 people; seeking work, and help about 320 business and education recruiters find the employees the need.

The purpose of the fairs, according to Sherrice Mitchell, executive director of the African American Chamber of Commerce, is “to help Riverside and San Bernardino counties’ diverse workforce find local employment.”

History has shown that too often leaders of organizations and businesses may be committed to finding a diverse work force, but with written job applications as the first step in employment screening, frequently these potential employees don’t appear impressive on paper, or get past the first level of screening from clerks for whom ethnic diversity is not a priority.

With the Inland Empire Diversity Career Diversity & Job Fair, employers can meet these people face-to-face, ask important questions and see if the person might fit comfortably into their corporate or company mix.

“There are African Americans, Native Americans, Asians, the disabled, over 40, veterans, and Hispanics who sincerely want to find jobs that will utilize their skills and experience, but may feel intimidated to initiate a contact with a university or business. At the Job Fairs, however, in one day they can meet with about 40 possible employers, explaining what they’ve done and can do,” said Mitchell.

The promoters stress that everyone is invited to attend and find a great local job. They also quote that the unemployment rate for Blacks and Hispanics is two to three times greater than for whites.

The Diversity Job Fairs provide the perfect step toward overcoming that imbalance while helping minorities find positions in the Inland Empire, saving those hours and gas communing to Los Angeles or Orange County.

The first Inland Empire Career Diversity Career & Job Fair of the year was Victorville in February, but another is slated for April 5 at the San Bernardino National Orange Show Event Center, followed on April 26 by one in Indio and on May 3 in Riverside. Other shows are set on August 2, August 9, September 6 and October 4. In 2007 Ontario and Temecula will be added.


Among the many exhibiting businesses at the San Bernardino Diversity Job Fair will be CalTrans; ESRI, the Blood Bank of Riverside and San Bernardino counties; a global mapping systems leader; the Ronald McDonald House; San Bernardino County, The Riverside and San Bernardino County Sheriffs office and the Rialto and Colton Unified School Districts.
