South Glastonbury, CT (PRWEB) March 23, 2006
Airball Products Medical Division has announced the availability of a hollow stainless steel Measurement Calibration Marker (MCM) that provides medical practitioners with a precise measurement reference when viewing film x-rays, computerized radiography (CR) or direct radiography (DR).
Based upon the more than 2-million hollow stainless steel balls that have been manufactured by Airball Products, the new 25mm Airball Medical MCM eliminates problems associated with the magnification factor (penumbra effect) of various body parts relative to their distance from the imaging surface. By providing a precise 25mm imaging reference regardless of the angle of imaging, the MCM provides a level of measurement accuracy that is not attainable with makeshift methods such as placing a coin in the imaging area or including a 2-dimensional measurement grid, both of which are foreshortened and distorted by any imaging angle other than perpendicular.
The Airball Medical MCM is a radio-opaque, lightweight hollow ball manufactured from 440A stainless steel, the same material used in many surgical instruments. It is easily placed, will remain firmly adhered to a patient during the entire imaging process, and is easily removed with no patient discomfort.
For automated imaging systems, medical digital plotting software can use Airball Medical MCM reference images to calculate appropriate algorithms for the calibration of objects and body parts.
Airball Medical’s Measurement Calibration Markers are dimensionally stable under all conditions. They can be sterilized by autoclave in the same manner as any stainless steel surgical instrument, but are so low cost that they can be disposed of after each patient use.
A wide variety of adhesive placement options are available, as is custom laser engraving of each Airball Medical MCM.
Available in quantities from 100 to 1-million, medical practitioners, imaging software companies and distributors of medical products are invited to contact Airball Medical Products for pricing and delivery information for the 25mm MCM. Custom sizes and packaging are also available.
