Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) March 24, 2006 -- Hint: He was a world-renowned artist most famous for his bird drawings. Hint: His initials are “JA” and the story of his childhood is featured in the soon-to-be-released Volume 12 of the award-winning Young Patriots Series.

If you guessed John Audubon, then “fly” over to the Southern Kentucky BookFest to learn more. John’s love of drawing sent him into the woods and fields to capture birds and animals with pencil and paper, but other adventures also awaited. Who was the ghost in the old Mill Tower? Why did John run away from school? Children, parents and educators can learn more about the wildlife artist and naturalist and his Kentucky connection when Young Patriots Series creator Florrie Binford Kichler, recently featured in an article in the national book review magazine, Pages, visits the Southern Kentucky Book Fest (www.sokybookfest.org) in Bowling Green, KY . on April 7 and 8.

In a presentation at 1:30 pm on April 7, Ms. Kichler will bring famous Americans such as John Audubon, Phillis Wheatley, Amelia Earhart and George Rogers Clark to life for young readers. Each Young Patriot book tells the story of the childhood adventures of historical heroes and heroines, with 12 titles currently available.

“The Young Patriots Series hooks kids on history by telling the story of famous people when they were young,” notes Florrie. “Whether it’s John Audubon longing to be drawing outdoors while sitting in school or Phillis Wheatley learning to read, children of today will recognize themselves in each one of the Young Patriots Series heroes and heroines.”

Originally published 50 years ago as the Childhood of Famous Americans Series™, the Young Patriots Series titles were known by millions of baby-boomers as the “orange biographies” due to their bright orange covers. Forty years after a long childhood illness that began Ms. Kichler’s love affair with reading and those orange biographies, she founded her company with the mission of reintroducing the old series, long since out of print, to today’s children.
