Learn.com®, the leader in creating and projecting power-on-demand e-learning, today announced the final release of Mentor® for Microsoft Office 2003. Whether you are migrating from previous version of Microsoft Office, or installing Office for the first time, this Mentor can make your users successful without taking a training course. Mentor takes the informal learning approach by using short, workflow-embedded multimedia presentations and demonstrations, accessed by a single click directly from Word, Outlook, Excel, or PowerPoint. Mentor enables true self-service support and has proven to dramatically reduce Level 1 Help Desk calls.

“A Microsoft Office upgrade is a big investment, but you can't get a return on any technology investment until your people know how to use it,” says Dave Swenson Executive Director of Product Development at Learn.com. “Mentor makes sure your users aren't slowed down by the interface changes, and it helps them start using the enhanced functionality quickly. Mentor shows users what they need to know to get started, then how to do what they need to do as they work. Retention of all functions isn’t necessary because Mentor is always available at the click of a mouse.”

Mentor for Microsoft Office 2003 consists of Mentors for Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Together, they contain over 900 just-in-time multimedia demonstrations, covering virtually all the end user functions,” said Swenson. “Whenever a person is stuck or has a question about how to perform a task, Mentor is right there with the answer in a short, engaging, show-and-tell demonstration. The effectiveness of this workflow-embedded learning and its reduction in Help Desk demand has made Mentor a worldwide success, with over 8.5 million user licenses sold.”

Mentor uses a non-invasive architecture, with no need to visit desktops or update any Microsoft files. When a user needs to see how to perform a task, that knowledge is available just by clicking the Mentor icon from within the application. This opens a keyword searchable HTML container structured like Microsoft’s Help. Users see and hear 60-to 90-second demonstrations and can immediately perform the same steps themselves. “This latest release is part of our strategy to offer a single communication, learning, and support solution for the core load of every corporate desktop,” Swenson continued. “The effectiveness of Mentor is measured in faster user adoption, as well as a reduction in deployment time, reduced training, Help Desk and support costs.”

Mentor for Office 2003 can reside on network servers or on the hard drive of workstations and laptops. It, therefore, is equally effective for corporate employees, telecommuters and small businesses. A single CD allows both kinds of installation. Mentor is self-service technology at its best. It shortens software deployments, makes the most of advanced capabilities, and makes Help Desk calls unnecessary. In addition, it does all this at a very low cost.
