Research collaboration will advance research into user-based behavior deviation technology

TORONTO, Canada, Mar 27. 2006 -- Snipe Networks, a leading provider of user-centric network behavioral analysis (NBA) solutions, in collaboration with the University of Waterloo, announced today that is expanding its research facility at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The research facility will serve as a center of excellence in research and technology incubation for user-centric network behavior analysis, pure behavior deviation detection, known anomaly detection models and correlation technologies.

“We are excited to partner with Snipe Networks to research and incubate network behavior analysis and mitigation techniques using user behavioral modeling.” said Prof. Pin-Han Ho, Dept. of Electrical & Computer Engineering University of Waterloo, "This collaboration enables our research team to leverage Snipe Network’s industry expertise to accelerate technology commercialization.”

Traditional IDS and network-based analysis detection technology rely on pre-conceived notions of threats through definitions of content signature, flow rules, and specific access policies. Snipe Network’s NetGuard product line applies a user-centric behavioral analysis approach to provide an early warning on enterprise user’s deviant and malicious behavior that could be caused by disgruntled employees, computers infected with worms, viruses and spy-ware, or partners with hidden agendas. Focusing on a network user’s behavior is the only method that works in a highly dynamic internal network environment that most enterprises have today.

"Snipe Networks’ vision is to offer the leading malicious incident and network visibility solution.” said Xiaodong Lin, Ph.D, CISSP, Chief Security Officer and Founder of Snipe Networks. “The research collaboration complements the company’s product engineering organization by bringing together the best of the industry and academia to realize our vision. With these advancements coming from the research team, Snipe Networks will advance state of NBA technology in the industry.”
