City of Live Mermaids to Perform Underwater Wedding April 29, 2006

Government officials from the City of Weeki Wachee, pop. 9 (City of Live Mermaids), will be conducting a renewal of wedding vows underwater.

Weeki Wachee, FL (PRWEB) March 26, 2006 -- Government officials from the City of Weeki Wachee, Florida will be overseeing a special and unique ceremony on Saturday, April 29, 2006. Chris and Jodi Thanner of Pasco County, Florida, have decided to renew their vows on the sixth anniversary of their wedding date.

What makes this event special and unique, is that the City of Weeki Wachee, incorporated in 1966, has a resident population of nine! The City has been dubbed, "The City of Live Mermaids," due to the fact the famed mermaid attraction, Weeki Wachee Springs, is located within the City limits. The ceremony, titled "The Mermaid and the Fisherman," will take place underwater in the head spring of the attraction. Invited guests and members of the media, will be able to witness this historic event inside the comfort of the 500-seat Underwater Mermaid Theater.

Officiating the ceremony, will be Assistant City Clerk, Marcia Karcher. Bridesmaids will include City Clerk, Sarah Tenison and the Mayor of Weeki Wachee, Robyn Anderson. All of whom, will be in full mermaid attire (mermaid tails), including the bride. City Commissioner, Julie Rivers, will act as ring bearer, dressed in a turtle suit.

Chris and Jodi Thanner, own and operate Ice Cream n' More, a Pasco County based business serving the Tampa Bay area. "I've always wanted to be a mermaid." Said Jodi. "I wanted to do something unique that we would remember forever. The planning began a couple of years ago as a way of donating to the 'Save Our Tails' campaign to help save the nearly 60 year old mermaid attraction." Jodi also commented on her Husband's reaction when told what she wanted to do. "Chris was great. He was all for it and is thrilled."

Jodi, along with the City officials, have been practicing underwater between six to eight hours a week.

Mayor Robyn Anderson added. "This might be the only underwater ceremony like it in the world! To be married underwater, in the City of Live Mermaids, by mermaids, cannot be duplicated anywhere else!"
