Softeon, provider of the industry’s most innovative software solutions for supply chain execution, announced today that it has released a new Costing and Billing module as an addition to its powerful Warehouse Management System (WMS) and advanced elite series supply chain execution solutions.
The new Costing and Billing module provides the most flexible and powerful capabilities in the WMS industry to capture and bill distribution and other logistics-related costs. Available as either a stand-alone solution, or completely integrated with Softeon’s Warehouse Management System, the Billing and Costing module is perfect for third-party logistics providers (3PLs) that require advanced capabilities to track client activities and costs at multiple levels, across multiple costing models, and with intelligent use of the right cost model depending on contracts and operational variables.
At the same time, many non-3PL distribution companies are requiring similar capabilities for their logistics organizations. For example, these companies may be supporting multiple channels of distribution, different lines of business, or different product types, and need to understand the distribution costs of these areas, and in many cases be able to charge back to the line of business for these distribution services. Also, distribution companies are increasingly taking on fulfillment activities for other organizations, and therefore requiring a powerful billing solution to profitably provide these services.
Softeon has recently sold its Costing and Billing module to a large consumer goods company whose logistics arm is servicing the distribution needs of several business units, and which must meet these types of costing and billing requirements. In addition to 3PLs, companies in consumer goods, retail, direct to consumer, wholesale distribution, spare parts distribution, and other vertical industries increasingly require these advanced costing and billing capabilities.
What differentiates Softeon’s Costing and Billing module is the granularity of activity-based cost detail, and the flexibility with which the rules for costing and billing can be configured. The solution supports comprehensive billing of logistic operations across inbound transportation, receiving, warehouse operations, distribution, outbound transportation and other activities. It offers a more powerful and flexible approach to billing attributes and configuration of billing rules than any currently available package.
It enables customers to define billing rates based on variables such as quantity, weight, volume, time, space, labor, container, percentage, and many others by individual client or channel. Unique billing requirements are easily supported.
The Costing and Billing module can be configured to automatically generate billing transactions and invoices based on pre-defined rules. Invoices can be generated automatically and e-mailed to accounting staff for review before sending it to the customer or the line of business.
“These advanced costing and billing capabilities are simply essential for 3PLs, lowering their administrative costs and enabling them to fully bill revenue to which they are entitled under contract,” said Gana Govind, president of Softeon. “With increasingly complex channels of distribution, and more companies acting as ‘logistics service’ organizations within their corporations, the interest in these capabilities from non-3PLs is also expanding rapidly.”
The Costing and Billing module is easily integrated as a stand-alone solution to a company’s existing warehouse management systems and financial applications, facilitated by the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) of the elite series. The module also comes pre-integrated with Softeon’s functionally-rich elite series WMS, which is used by a growing number of the industry’s logistics leaders to achieve lower operating costs and increased throughput and customer service.
