New Features in Leading Investment Analysis Software Include Daily/Weekly Data, Factor Analysis and Impact Analysis

Strategic Financial Solutions, LLC (SFS) is pleased to announce the newest version of PerTrac, the world’s leading asset allocation and investment analysis software. The update to PerTrac 6.0, version 18, is available immediately. Three of the most significant enhancements debuting in this version are Daily/Weekly Data Capabilities, Factor Analysis, and Impact Analysis.

“This newest version of PerTrac represents valuable feedback from our clients combined with a tremendous amount of hard work by our development team,” noted SFS CEO and president Gerald Mintz. “We think our customers—including hedge funds, funds of funds, traditional investment managers, consultants, banks, brokers, and service providers—will find PerTrac version 6.0.18 even more useful in their daily investment management workflow.”

While earlier versions of PerTrac were limited to using investment performance data in monthly or quarterly formats, the latest update allows PerTrac to work with both daily and weekly data. This is a major advancement that has been increasingly requested by PerTrac clients. The ability to enter and review daily and weekly performance data, as well as calculate statistics and produce reports based on it, will be especially welcomed by users working with traditional investments, such as mutual funds. Increasingly, however, alternative investments such as hedge funds and CTA program are also issuing prices or performance returns more frequently than once a month, and those clients require a way to store and analyze these increased data points. The daily/weekly investment data interface is offered in addition to PerTrac’s original monthly/quarterly data interface. The look and feel is similar, so users should find working with daily or weekly data very intuitive. When entering daily data, PerTrac conveniently takes weekends and holidays into account.

Factor Analysis is a new feature that allows users to see, at a glance, how statistical relationships among investments in a portfolio have changed over time. For example, a user may want to see if the funds in his or her portfolio have become more correlated to one another over the past two years. With a few simple clicks, PerTrac reveals the new Factor Analysis window, with colorful three-dimensional bar charts representing the correlations between a fund in the portfolio and each of the other constituent funds. A simple drop-down menu allows the user to switch out which investment gets compared to all the others. This feature is also useful for comparing an investment against a group of market benchmarks. But Factor Analysis is not limited to just correlation; it can provide a visual representation of beta, alpha, R-squared, tracking error, beta T-stat, and the information ratio as well. Other options allow the user to further customize the results to best fit his or her needs.

Impact Analysis is another great new feature in PerTrac version 6.0.18. PerTrac has long had a robust set of portfolio construction tools but the new Impact Analysis feature gives users a quick way to see how a portfolio, once constructed, would be impacted by the addition or subtraction of a fund. The Impact Analysis window displays a set of “before and after” charts, revealing how the portfolio changes relative to a chosen benchmark in terms of correlation, alpha, beta, and other statistics. In addition, a single button click produces a risk table that shows all the familiar PerTrac statistics, including compound rate of return, standard deviation, and Sharpe Ratio, for the portfolio both with and without the fund. Thanks to the breadth of information offered and its ease of use, Impact Analysis can be a powerful decision-making tool for investors.

The new Factor Analysis and Impact Analysis features are available in the standard and advanced levels of PerTrac. The Daily/Weekly Data feature is available in all levels of PerTrac.
