Authentium and OPSWAT Enable Windows Application Hardening

Authentium and OPSWAT announce joint security initative to protect any Windows application from hacking and programmatic attacks. Software developers and integrators without kernel-level expertise may rapidly add protection for an entire portfolio of applications and to maintain protection as the applications are updated.

Authentium, the world’s leading end-point security technology integrator, and OPSWAT, the leader in endpoint security application detection, control and monitoring announced today a joint security initiative to enable Software Developers and System Integrators to implement an "Application Protection Pack," to protect any Windows application from hacking and programmatic attacks. Authentium's patent-pending TSX SDK and OPSWAT’s OESIS Integrity data service combine to effectively "armor plate" any Windows application, regardless of the manufacturer, without requiring knowledge of the protected application's source code.

A TSX-based Protection Pack is ideal for software developers and integrators needing to provide kernel-level protection for security and other “business critical” Windows applications. Such applications are increasingly being targeted by attacks which use Windows commands to alter or delete critical files, stop processes and modify registry entries, upon which these applications depend.

The Authentium TSX SDK provides kernel-level protection for any designated files, folders, registry entries and processes. If an attack attempts to use any Windows OS command to delete or stop TSX-protected data or services, the attacks are intercepted and gracefully nullified by TSX. Messaging and control features between the kernel level and the application level provide application programmers with powerful driver-level capabilities to deal with the threat. Actual security policies (e.g., disallow action, log event, activate alarm) are specified by TSX licensees;

TSX will execute any specified security policy.

OPSWAT’s OESIS Integrity data service provides TSX with the exact processes, files, applications and registry entries to protect. OESIS keeps that list current as protected applications are updated and patched.

The TSX-OESIS combination allows a software developer or integrator without kernel-level expertise to rapidly assemble TSX Protection Packs for an entire portfolio of applications and to maintain protection as the applications are updated.

“The TSX Toolkit raises the bar on Windows application security to a new level”, said Helmuth Freericks, CTO of Authentium. "A TSX-based Protection Pack provides the industry's most complete kernel-level defense for any Windows application, without the need to make any

changes to the application itself.”

“OPSWAT is pleased to have been selected as Authentium’s solution partner for the TSX Protection Pack offering. Thanks to OPSWAT’s expertise in tracking and reporting binary and registry changes, customers will remain protected as they update and patch applications hardened with TSX,” said Tom Mullen, OPSWAT’s, Director of Business Development.

Underscoring the industry need to secure all applications against attack, the SANS Institute recently detailed the top 20 computing security vulnerabilities, and the list included not only security software, but it included a significant number of business software applications.
