FedEx Canada President Wins Excellence in Communication Leadership (EXCEL) Award

The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) has named Rajesh Subramaniam, president of FedEx Canada, as the recipient of the 2006 Excellence in Communication Leadership (EXCEL) Award. The EXCEL Award is the organization’s highest award given to non-members and recognizes individuals who exhibit strong leadership in fostering excellence in communication and who contribute to the development and support of organizational communication.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 29, 2006 -- The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) has named Rajesh Subramaniam, president of FedEx Canada, as the recipient of the 2006 Excellence in Communication Leadership (EXCEL) Award. The EXCEL Award is the organization’s highest award given to non-members and recognizes individuals who exhibit strong leadership in fostering excellence in communication and who contribute to the development and support of organizational communication.

Subramaniam has been with FedEx since 1991 and is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and the management of sales, marketing, air and ground operations, customer service and customs brokerage for FedEx Canada. Throughout his career at FedEx, his leadership has been key to developing and executing successful strategies for revenue growth, profitability, brand awareness and corporate reputation.

According to Warren Bickford, ABC, chair of IABC, “Rajesh recognizes the communication challenges unique to the structure of the FedEx operation with 85 percent of employees, primarily on-road couriers, without regular intranet or e-mail access. He ensured that systems were in place so that these front-line employees were kept informed and engaged in their organization. Rajesh makes communication a key component of his business decision-making and understands the value and importance of strategic communication in achieving business success.”

A top graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology, Subramaniam holds two master’s degrees—one in chemical engineering from Syracuse University and one in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a much-sought-after speaker, addressing senior business audiences on topics such as international trade, leadership, workplace environment and diversity, innovations in customer service and supply chain management.

In addition to several professional profiles in the Canadian print and radio media, Subramaniam’s progressive leadership style earned him a starring role in an hour-long CBC Venture program “The Big Switcheroo,” in which he swapped jobs with a FedEx courier for a week—on national TV!

Subramaniam is scheduled to accept the award on 5 June, at IABC’s 2006 International Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia. The conference will be attended by 1,400 communicators from more than 40 countries. For more details on the IABC International Conference, visit www.iabc.com/ic.
