Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) March 31, 2006 -- Internet entrepreneur and former Canadian diplomat Steve Kaufmann knows what it takes to learn languages. Having learned to speak nine languages fluently, he has unique insights into second language acquisition. He will be giving insight into how to learn to speak English fluently and on The Linguist Language Learning System (http://www.thelinguist.com).

“There are three factors that influence an individual’s ability to learn a second language: motivation, an efficient method of learning and, to some extent, natural ability,” says Kaufmann.

“Motivation and method are the keys, which can dramatically accelerate language learning regardless of the level or even natural aptitude of the learner.” Kaufmann continues.

An important and very interested audience for Kaufmann’s presentation consists of immigrants . Both recent newcomers and people who have lived in North America for a long time are often not satisfied with their English ability. They know that improving their English would help them get better jobs. “I estimate there are half a million people in Greater Vancouver who want to improve their English. If they were to do so, the economic and social benefit, both for themselves and for the region, would be enormous,” states Kaufmann.

At the same time, there are tens of thousands of foreign students who have come to Vancouver to learn English. These foreign students, from Asia, Latin America and Europe are often frustrated at their slow pace of improvement. “Traditional language teaching methods are often inefficient and therefore discouraging for learners. Unfortunately, most people still think that to learn a language you need a school and a teacher. This is simply not true,” says Kaufmann , effective language learning starts with the learner adopting the correct attitude and developing a learning strategy suited to his or her own needs. That is what changed me from a unilingual English speaker to a person who easily learns languages. That is what I want to share with my audience."

Kaufmann’s speech is presented in cooperation with the Japan-Canada Chamber of Commerce and will take place at Chapters Bookstore on Robson Street, downtown Vancouver on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at 7:00 pm.
