(PRWEB) April 1, 2006 -- Worcester County resident Michael James has filed the needed paperwork with the Maryland State Board of Elections to begin his campaign for one of the two seats in the Maryland House of Delegates for District 38B which encompasses all of Worcester and part of Wicomico Counties. Michael James is currently the Managing Partner for The Carousel Resort Hotel & Condominiums and has played a key role during the resorts resurgence following several problematic years in the late 1990’s. Michael is also Chairman of the Maryland Tourism Development Board which he was appointed to in March of 2003 by Governor Robert Ehrlich Jr.
Michael relocated to the Salisbury area from the Midwest in 1980 and soon began his career in the hospitality industry. A graduate of Salisbury State College, (currently Salisbury University) Michael worked early in his career as the General Manager of the Salisbury Sheraton. His sister Vicki Whitman is a teacher in the Wicomico County School System and another sister, the late Judith Graff was a Speech Pathologist and teacher in the Salisbury area. Mrs. Whitman is married to lifelong Salisbury area resident Phil Whitman. Mr. Whitman is Vice President for Mid-Atlantic Farm Credit and is Treasurer for the Committee to Elect Michael James.
Michael and his wife Marilyn have four children and reside in West Ocean City. Marilyn is the daughter of the late Reverend and Mrs. Holland Barton. Reverend Barton served as the Rector of St. Paul’s by the Sea Episcopal Church for 12 years. Marilyn volunteers with the Worcester County School System at Ocean City Elementary and Stephen Decatur Middle School and is chairperson for the School Improvement Advisory Committee (S.I.A.C.). Marilyn James plans to be an active participant during the campaign.
Michael James is running as a Republican and hopes to bring Eastern Shore values and more balance to the Maryland General Assembly where Republicans are heavily outnumbered.
A major concern has been the partisan nature of the Democrat led General Assembly since the 2002 election of Governor Ehrlich. “More time is spent playing politics than solving real issues important to the Eastern Shore residents such as job growth, affordable health care and environmental concerns” according to Michael." "I am running for Maryland House of Delegates because I believe the values of the Lower Shore should be better represented in Annapolis ... Values like common sense, individual responsibility, freedom from government interference... and smaller ... not larger . . .government. We need to be creating good paying jobs for Lower Shore families, not telling companies that create those jobs how to run their business."
