Naples, FL (PRWEB) April 1, 2006
The Scoot Commute is a yearly event conceived by Scooter Rider Magazine to promote transportation and travel via scooter. 2005 was the first year in which two riders, on 250cc scooters, traveled 4200 miles from Florida to Maine and back. This promotion was a great success exposing to many, through internet, media and personal contact, the notion that a scooter can be appropriate for many transportation needs.
Why promote scooter travel? Our society has come to embrace large, expensive, and less fuel efficient vehicles. Consequently, scooters have become one of the last motor vehicles still easily affordable to purchase and supply with fuel. Through this event, we hope to inspire others to consider scooters as fun and practical transportation.
Scoot Commute 2006 will take place from April 8 - 21. Our editor, BJ Strass, will cover a transcontinental route, starting in California and ending in Florida. The southerly route will keep a leisurely pace and utilize a minimum of interstates, focusing on scenic backroads and out-of-the-way points of interest. During the event no support vehicles are utilized; all necessary gear will be packed on the scooter. Mr Strass will also be meeting with Scooter Rider Magazine subscribers and interested media at stopovers. The planned nightly stopovers are:
Sacramento, CA 4/8
Bakersfield, CA 4/9
Tecopa, CA (Death Valley) 4/10
Henderson, NV 4/11
Phoenix, AZ 4/12
Bisbee, AZ 4/13
Las Cruces, NM 4/14-15
Ft Stockton, TX 4/16
Undetermined East Texas Stop 4/17
New Orleans, LA 4/18-19
Tallahassee, FL 4/20
Naples, FL 4/21
