Oneonta, New York (PRWEB) April 2, 2006 -- The New York Summer Music Festival (NYSMF) announces the creation of a two-week-long Classical Saxophone Institute. Running from July 9 - 22, 2006, this program is one of only a very few worldwide that can meet the needs of serious saxophonists. A maximum of 20 students (ages 10-25) will be accepted to this exclusive program as part of the premiere season of NYSMF.
The NYSMF Saxophone Institute is headed by Dr. Paul Cohen (on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, Rutgers, MSU, and New York University), one of the strongest voices striving to bring the saxophone into the mainstream of classical music performance. Dr. Cohen owns one of the world's largest private collections of saxophones, and his "To The Fore Publishing Company" offers an extensive catalog of his arrangements and settings for saxophone ensemble as well as original, historical and contemporary saxophone works from selected composers.
Geared towards advanced high school and college saxophone students, the NYSMF Saxophone Institute will prepare them at the highest level for the most challenging high school contests and college auditions via the following:
| | - Private lessons
- Master classes
- Saxophone quartet
- Saxophone ensemble (ranging from sopranino to contrabass saxophone)
- Chamber music studies
- Lecture classes on saxophone history and literature
|
Students will participate in these courses every day, and give multiple concert performances at the end of the two-week session.
