The Des Moines Triathlon Club Surpasses Membership Milestone, Introduces New Web Site

The Des Moines Triathlon Club Sees Membership Rise As Interest In Triathlon Continues to Grow.

Des Moines, Iowa (PRWEB) April 2, 2006 -- The Des Moines Triathlon Club announced today that it has reached 100+ members and expects continued growth for the club. “The interest in triathlon is very strong in the greater Des Moines area” said Jenny Weber, Vice President of the Des Moines Triathlon Club. “People are being drawn to activities that allow all ages and abilities to participate. Triathlon is the perfect fitness combination of swimming, biking and running.” Weber added.

With the influx of membership, www.DSMtri.com web site has been upgraded with more user friendly features for beginners and advanced athletes. DSMTri has added training advice, news feeds, photos, links to races and more.

“If you want to get connected to the sport of triathlon, joining the Des Moines Triathlon Club is a good place to begin” said Ric Jurgens, CEO of Hy-Vee Inc., the major sponsor of the Hy-Vee Des Moines Triathlon. “The benefits of eating a healthy diet and regular exercise are well documented. Swimming, biking and running are excellent ways to lose weight and improve your overall health” Jurgens added.

Triathlon today is a rapidly growing sport, and USA Triathlon boasts over 50,000 members throughout the United States. “The great thing about triathlon is you can participate for fun or be competitive with others your own age. And it is one of the few sports where you can participate with professionals at the same event.” Said club founder Jason Halfpap. It is estimated that between 150,000-250,000 people try a multi-sport event in the United States each year. Much of the growth has been attributed to the triathlon becoming an Olympic sport in 2000. “We are very excited about having first class races in the Greater Des Moines Area. It is a big win for the city, the sport and local athletes.” Halfpap concluded.
