Second Annual Jilted Film Festival Opens April 25, 2006 At Sugar In Downtown Manhattan

The Jilted Film Festival, a festival of comedy shorts rejected by other festivals to take place at Sugar in lower Manhattan. Screening will take place on April 25, 2006 - the eve of the Tribeca Film Festival.

New York, N.Y. (PRWEB) April 2, 2006 -- The Jilted Film Festival™ – the first film festival for comedy shorts that have been rejected by at least one festival – will take place Tuesday, April 25th at Sugar, a bi-level bar, lounge, and restaurant located at 311 Church Street between Walker and Lispenard Streets in Tribeca. The event will be free and open to the public. Doors open at 7 pm.

Top jury-selected entries will be screened, and the first 50 audience members to arrive will receive goodie bags.

Founded by Brooklyn filmmaker and actor Mellini Kantayya, Jilted is presented by the media production company Brooklyn Tree Productions of which Ms. Kantayya is the creator and artistic/managing director.

Ms. Kantayya’s comedy short was rejected by five (count ‘em FIVE) major film festivals despite belly aching laughs and rave reviews from test audiences. She found little comfort that many colleagues, all creators of brilliantly hysterical films, were experiencing the same. She vowed to avenge their collective rejection and is launching the first film festival solely for films that have been jilted by other film festivals.

The Jilted Film Festival will be held in conjunction with Dahlia’s Flix and Mix. Hosted by Dahlia Smith, Dahlia’s Flix and Mix showcases independent films every Tuesday night at Sugar.

“Last years festival was a smashing success. It was fun, campy, and best of all, free,” says Kantayya. “Both filmmakers and audience really got into the jilted spirit,” adds Kantayya.
