Society of Economic Geologists Announce Industry Leaders as Conference Speakers
Exploration companies worldwide represented at conference.
DENVER (PRWEB) April 4, 2006 -- The Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) today announced several keynote speakers for its biennial conference, SEG 2006, being held this year in Keystone, Colorado, May 14th-16th.
SEG 2006 is creating a unique opportunity for collaboration between mineral explorers, business leaders, earth scientists, researchers, students and investors on issues which will shape the minerals industry for years to come.
Because of pressing issues currently facing the industry, leaders of minerals exploration companies are taking an active role at this conference as speakers, session chairs, and attendees. The impressive group of speakers includes several key executives of major mining corporations.
Pierre Lassonde, CEO of Newmont Mining Corporation, will present a keynote address titled “Exploration – The Life Blood of the Mining Industry.” Newmont is one of the world’s largest gold mining companies. Lassonde’s strong commitment to developing the knowledge and skills of the next generation is reflected in his remarks, “We should never forget that the most important natural resource of our country is not nickel, gold or diamond, but its people.”
Chip Goodyear, CEO of the Melbourne Australia-based BHP Billiton, the world’s largest diversified miner, will speak on “How Exploration Adds Value.” Mr. Goodyear has extensive experience in the business side of economic geology, including financing, corporate restructuring, and merger and acquisitions.
Another view will be presented at the conference by Tom Albanese, Rio Tinto Chief Executive, Copper & Exploration, who will speak on the topic “Rio Tinto - Taking the Long-term View for Value Creation.” Mr. Albanese has recently been named Executive Director, Group Resources of Rio Tinto which will become effective July 1st.
In addition, Norm Keevil, Chairman of the Board of Teck Cominco, headquartered in Vancouver, BC, will share his insights on “Wealth Creation through Joint Ventures.” Keevil was inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame in 2004.
