eMeter Now Supports the Broadest Array of Meter Data Communications Technologies in the Industry

eMeter announced today that it has extended the capabilities of the Power Information Platform™ by eMeter (PIPe), the industry’s most comprehensive advanced metering information system (AMIS), to include data from the Itron Fixed Network 2.0 system and BLP Technologies’ paging network used for remote meter disconnection.

Redwood City, CA (PRWEB) April 4, 2006 -- eMeter announced today that it has extended the capabilities of the Power Information Platform™ by eMeter (PIPe), the industry’s most comprehensive advanced metering information system (AMIS), to include data from the Itron Fixed Network 2.0 system and BLP Technologies’ paging network used for remote meter disconnection.

“These two new PIPe interfaces bring the total to 12,” said Larsh Johnson, eMeter’s President and Chief Technical Officer, “and that’s just on the data communications side. On the utility information systems side, we have operational PIPe interfaces to a variety of CIS, outage management, field work management, and other systems.”

The number and variety of PIPe interfaces establish eMeter’s AMIS software as the leading integration platform for advanced metering data. In addition to the Itron FN 2.0 and BLP technologies, eMeter has implemented PIPe adapters for the following technologies: American Innovations’ AIMetering System®; Cellnet’s fixed network; Comverge’s PowerCAMP; DCSI’s TWACS®; Hexagram’s Star AMR Fixed Network; Hunt Technologies’ TS1; Itron’s MV-90, MV-90xi, and Premierplus4; and Tantalus’s TUNet. In addition to these completed adapters, eMeter is now implementing interfaces to Current Technologies’ broadband over power line (BPL) system, Elster Electricity’s EnergyAxis, and Sensus Metering/AMDS’s FlexNet.

The PIPe’s interfaces are smart adapters that both send and receive information and can be configured to provide data in the required format, such as MV-9 (MV-90 native format), CMEP, or XML. PIPe adapters also operate in whatever mode is required by the interfaced system -- batch files, streaming data, database queries, and more.

eMeter's PIPe is an enterprise-class application that supports and maintains advanced metering information with a sophisticated data model and automated support for advanced metering business processes. The PIPe incorporates all the functionality required to deliver accurate and reliable data to utility applications. It is web-based, enabling desktop access to utility employees, business partners, and customers. The PIPe architecture supports systems from thousands to millions of on-line meters and includes a high-capacity messaging backbone and distributed application servers. Intelligent interface adapters integrate with utility and client legacy systems with minimal disruption to existing billing, outage, and distribution management systems. The PIPe’s meter and communications independence ensures support of new technologies as they emerge, making a utility client's infrastructure as "future proof" as possible.
