KENSINGTON, MD (PRWEB) April 6, 2006 -- Payroll Network, Inc., a locally owned payroll processing firm serving a wide range of businesses throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, has announced that the Yellow Ribbon Fund will be a charitable co-partner of the 18th annual Greater Washington Society of CPAs (GWSCPA) Golf Tournament, which also supports The GWSCPA Educational Foundation/Scholarship Fund. The June 19th event will take place at the Woodmont Country Club, 1201 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland from 9 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Created in February 2005, the Yellow Ribbon Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to welcoming wounded servicemen and women into the community while they recuperate in the Washington, DC area. The group’s efforts center around supporting the service members and their families. Services include: 1) providing transportation such as car rentals and cab vouchers to visiting family members; 2) arranging hotel or apartment stays for visiting family members: 3) organizing trips to sporting and cultural events for service members and their families; and 4) matching volunteers with activities that will encourage and support service members and their families. Additionally, the program provides ancillary services in the form of: 1) transportation to and from job training or job site; 2) facilitation of the servicemen and women’s free time to learn job skills with a local company and foster meaningful interactions with the civilian business community; and 3) arrangement of more formal on-the-job training within local businesses or at technical institutions, when appropriate.

“Everyday, our wounded servicemen and women return from combat, often to long-term rehabilitation at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital,” said Marie Robey Wood, Executive Director, Yellow Ribbon Fund. “Long-term rehabilitation at any hospital is not easy. Family and community support helps a patient tremendously in their recovery.”

Wood noted that the majority of injured service members, many amputees, at both facilities are far from their own communities and many have stays of 18 months or longer. As a result, the support of family members is sparse and sometimes, absent altogether. The Yellow Ribbon Fund fills this void, enabling service members to complete a successful recovery, and transition smoothly to civilian life.

“The Yellow Ribbon Fund is a deserving charitable partner,” explained Charles J. Wolf II, president of Payroll Network. “I can think of no better way to support the sacrifices of our servicemen, women and their families than by supporting this worthy cause. I encourage the community to get involved.”

Golfers can play on one of two 18-hole courses during the tournament. Activities include a continental breakfast, barbecue lunch on the course, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, a dinner buffet and awards ceremony.
