Cutler, ME (PRWEB) April 6, 2006

Village Works, LLC has completed the purchase of the former Cutler Navy Base situated on 80 acres with 3200 feet of waterfront. Renamed “Beachwood Bay Estates,” the property includes 62 waterside dwellings being converted to residential condominium units.

Located east of the historic town of Machias off Route 191, Cutler is located in Washington County, which is considered to have the most unspoiled rugged coastline in Down East Maine. Beachwood Bay Estates offers residents walking trails along the ocean, pool, clubhouse and recreational areas, stocked trout pond, and private beaches, all at an affordable price. It is within an easy drive to many tourist attractions such as Campobello Island, NB; Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.

According to Thomas Manning, Partner, “This is one of the last areas on the Eastern seaboard where you can enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, rock climbing, fishing, boating, sailing, bird and whale watching, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in a quiet, peaceful environment. Imagine being able to kayak from your own association beach or watch the puffins on offshore at Machias Seal Island.”

Partner Scott Lalumiere added, “This project in this area is similar to Cape Cod forty years ago. It’s unspoiled and affordable for the families, individuals and retired couples who derive pleasure from quietness and clean air.”

The State of Maine is putting great economic development hopes in this most eastern coast of Maine site. In fact, Governor Baldacci believes that Washington County will become a hot spot for ecotourism, the fastest growing segment of the tourism industry. Artists, photographers, antiquers, rock hounds and amateur botanists are among the many visitors who draw a great deal of their happiness from this region. With its two cities, forty-four towns and a population of 32,000, Washington County is larger in area than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined.

Governor Balducci stated, “Washington County offers a wealth of ecotourism opportunities that are drawing people from all along the Atlantic Coast. We are very pleased that Cutler will host a new, vibrant community to showcase the extraordinary beauty of the Downeast Maine coast and spur economic development in the area.”

Engineering Technologies, Inc. with offices in Beddington, Bangor and Portland, ME, is the consultant for design, construction and engineering at Beachwood Bay Estates. The units consist of the on-site family housing that the Navy base hosted year round. They are in excellent condition and were meticulously maintained and upgraded right up until the base’s recent closure. Oceanfront unit prices start at $189,000, and there are four bedroom units starting at $99,000. They are available now, and buyers can customize interior décors.

The real estate broker for Beachwood Bay Estates is Prudential Prime Properties in Portland, ME. The property has an on-sight sales office manned by Cherryfield, ME resident, Edward Dugay. The telephone number is 1-888-PRU-5611.
