Following the Footsteps of Jules Verne Through Romania

Jules Verne’s fascination with Romania, it’s beautiful landscapes and inhabitants, led him to place the action of three of his well-known novels –’The Castle in the Carpathians’, ’The Danube Pilot’ and ’The Stubborn Keraban’ – in three of the most breath-taking regions of this country. Now, everyone has the opportunity to see those mysterious Romanian places through the author’s eyes and recognize many passages in the novels by touring the country.

(PRWEB) April 7, 2006 -- The tour starts with a visit to the Castle in the Carpathians, passing through the native city of the great Brancusi – an icon of XXth century modern art – that fosters three of this renowned works – The Gate of the Kiss, the Infinity Column and The Table of Silence. A short trip to the most important monasteries in Walachia – Govora, Bistrita and Polovraci is also included.

After crossing ‘Vulcan Pass’ as is mentioned in the novel – actually called ‘Jiul Pass,’ one will be impressed by the original Castle in the Carpathians, and its surroundings.

One must also see the ancient site of Sarmisegetuza the capital of Dacia, conquered by the Romans in 106 B.C., the year of birth of the Romanian people.

The tour continues with a visit to the Iron Gates, where the Danube first enters Romania, to get an idea of the setting of ’The Danube Pilot’. The 100km drive is a unique experience that allows for people to capture unbelievable snapshots and get a strong feeling of the book’s essence and atmosphere. The traditional fresh Danube fish-based dinner, on the mysterious banks of the Danube is the perfect ending of the day. And of course, everyone will be looking forward to the ferry ride on the Danube to Constanta.

The third part of the vernian travels refers to the setting of ’The stubborn Keraban’, and starts with the city of Babadag – a Turkish reliq-city that Jules Verne himself visited in 1892 and was simply fascinated by the mixture of cultures present at the time: Turkish, Jewish, Romanian, Greek, Armenian, just to name the most important. Besides Babadag, Jules Verne was also very impressed with Tulcea, the “amphitheatre city” as he called it, and tourists will now have the opportunity to see why that is.

The eight day of the tour is dedicated entirely to the Danube Delta, a place unique in the world. An 8 hour tour of the Danube Delta, by ship, including a delicious lunch on board will most definitely make people fall in love with this region.

The journey ends with a tour of the Romanian capital, Bucharest, consisting of visits to the impressive Palace of Parliament- the second largest building in the world after the Pentagon, the Patriarchal Church, and the Museum of the Romanian Village etc.

Throughout the adventure those who embark on it, will benefit from 4 star accommodation and transportation, and can be sure to get all the captivating stories as they are provided an English speaking guide.

About Cultural Romtour
We are a professional travel company, our personnel have more than 15 years experience, and we are introducing a new meaning in the concept of Romanian tourism.

We focus our interest on the person (or group) who intends to visit Romania, customizing the tours to the specific request of the tourist. This type of tour is organized to fulfill all the expectations of a small or a large group considering common hobbies or interests (music, history, art, culture, folklore, mountain bike, fishing, hiking, old steam locos...).

We know that nowadays just traveling; just visit the attractions is not anymore enough. We thought about that and that’s why we created a few trips with different themes to bend forward the wishes of the future tourists. A few examples, that you can also find on our website www.culturalromtour.com are:

  • A journey behind the Romanian Iron Curtain (about the communist times in Romania),
  • Real Romanian Life (about the real life in Romania for different kind of people: monk, herdsman, even gypsy)
  • Unreal Romania (you can still become a cavalier, we will show you the Happy Cemetery and others, we don’t to spoil the surprise)
  • 2 Easter Feasts in only 9 days (Romanian Orthodox Easter and the gypsy Easter)

We try to change the way you think about your vacation making your journey more interesting. We know our country by heart and that’s why even a trip with a standard title has key elements that make it special. Just an example: You can visit a monastery, but to eat with the monks and enjoy a Byzantine music concert makes the journey more special etc.

Every new idée is a challenge for us because you need options.
