Collected Essays of Raleigh Lawyer /Author in Running for Book of the Year

Letters from the Woods (Ragbagger Publishing © 2005), an inspirational collection of essays and personal stories by Raleigh lawyer Mike Hurley, is a finalist in this year’s competition for Book of the Year.

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) April 7, 2006 -- Letters from the Woods (Ragbagger Publishing © 2005), an inspirational collection of essays and personal stories by Raleigh lawyer Mike Hurley, is a finalist in this year’s competition for Book of the Year. Winners will be announced in a ceremony to take place in May during the Book Expo America convention in Washington, D.C., the nation’s largest book-publishing event, which is attended annually by publishers, retailers and industry professionals.

ForeWord magazine has sponsored the competition since 1995 to recognize exemplary works in a variety of genres and subject areas from independent and small presses. Hurley’s book, a finalist in the nature category, contains thirty-one heartfelt, often humorous, and insightful stories on life as experienced through the author’s wilderness journeys.

Ron Watters, Chairman of the National Outdoor Book Awards, recognized Hurley’s work as one of the best outdoor books of 2005, calling it “a refreshing change from the brusque and edgy writing so common these days.” In a review last year in the Raleigh News & Observer, outdoor editor Bob Simpson described the book as “pointed, personal, and poignant,” “a celebration of universal truths,” and “well worth reading.” Letters from the Woods has already received an honorable mention in the essay/ creative non-fiction category in the 2005 Independent Publisher Book Awards.

Hurley is a partner in Yates, McLamb & Weyher, L.L.P., in Raleigh, where he devotes the majority of his practice to the defense of medical malpractice, hospital liability, and nursing home cases.
