Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) April 7, 2006 -- Park Slope design boutique Rare Device is proud to present We Like The Things That Springtime Brings by Brooklyn textile designer and illustrator Lena Corwin (lenacorwin.com). Lena's work will occupy the entire front window of the shop and can be viewed from May 3-31, 2006. A reception will be held Thursday, May 11 from 6-9pm and will be hosted by Grace Bonney, author of the popular design web log design*sponge (designsponge.blogspot.com).
Lena, whose own handcrafted wedding is featured in the current issue of Martha Stewart Weddings, says We Like The Things That Springtime Brings is inspired by nature, the changing seasons, and her love for pattern design. Prompted by her recent move from Manhattan to Fort Greene, Brooklyn - where grand trees and beautiful parks are mixed with rubble and graffiti - the display will include a backdrop of Cole & Son's "Woods" wallpaper, marked with doodles and "carved" initials. Lena enjoys mixing and layering patterns, old and new, delicate and bold, neutral and colorful - all of which come together in a surprising mix of color, pattern and playfulness.
Throughout the month of May, Rare Device will offer the full range of Lena's designs (pillows and pillowcases, melamine plates and neckties) as well as her latest book illustration project Kids Crochet, written by Brooklyn author Kelli Ronci. Also available for purchase will be a new limited-edition melamine plate specially designed for Rare Device, and one-of-a-kind one inch buttons made from vintage fabric from Lena's personal collection.
Lena Corwin attributes her love for design and crafts to her very artistic upbringing in San Francisco. She has worked for Marithé + François Girbaud, Calvin Klein, and Jill Stuart. Lena now designs her own products and freelances for a variety of companies. She has illustrated two children's crafts books and is currently working on her own craft book related to pattern design. Lena has been featured in Elle Decoration (UK), Teen Vogue, Lucky, Glamour and Martha Stewart Weddings.
