Brendan Conroy Wins 1st In USASA National Snowboarding Championships In 10-to-11 Age Group & Captures “Triple Overall Ranking”
Brendan Conroy swept the USASA 2006 Snowboarding Championships at Lake Tahoe in the 10-to-11-age group as the New York 6th grader captured the prestigious "Triple Overall" and notched 1st place in Combined, Overall Alpine, Giant Slalom and Slalom events.
Lake Tahoe, CA (PRWEB) April 6, 2006 -- In a sweeping victory at the United States of America Snowboard Association 2006 National Championships, 11-year-old Brendan Conroy won first place honors in his age division at the annual snowboarding competition in Lake Tahoe, California.
Brendan, a Long Island, New York 6th grader, took 1st Place in the prestigious “Triple Overall Ranking” honors, typically claimed by future Olympic stars, as 1,435 snowboarders from across America gathered for the week-long event to determine best in category and overall competition.
In the 10-to-11-year-old Boys "Menehune" (Hawaiian, for Little One) Category competition, Brendan won several events, placing:

. #1 Overall Alpine Ranking
. #1 Giant Slalom Results
. #1 Slalom Results
Winning the Triple Overall is the sport’s top honor and includes results of three events: Alpine, a timed Giant Slalom event, Freestyle, a judged event where form and spontaneity are displayed, and Boardercross, in which head-to-head competition of six top athletes takes place on the same course.
Brendan Conroy said, “Snowboarding is great fun and I have made so many terrific friends. I'm happy to compete with such good snowboarders.”
Tom Collins, Executive Director of the USASA, said, “Brendan is one of the sports bright stars and exemplifies the qualities we strive for among our young athletes. Snowboarding is the fastest growing winter sport in America and is gaining popularity worldwide. When snowboarding was accepted by the International Olympic Committee as a full medal sport in the late 1990s, it opened the door for increased interest. At the recent winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy, 13 members of the 16-member USA snowboarding team got started in the USASA.”
Christopher Conroy, Brendan’s brother, also finished among the top competitors in the "Breaker Boys" 12-to-13-year-old Category USASA competition.
