ArtRod Opens New Exhibition Center - Critical Line
Inaugural Exhibition ‘Found Space’ opens Critical Line on May 5.
Tacoma, WA (PRWEB) April 9, 2006 -- ArtRod opens its newest exhibition space Critical Line with the inaugural exhibition Found Space. After months of planning and construction, ArtRod is thrilled to announce the opening of Critical Line this May 5. Critical Line is located at 741 St. Helens in Tacoma, Washington. The 1,800 square foot gallery will serve as one of the region’s most exciting spots for cutting-edge contemporary artworks. Director Jared Pappas-Kelley says, “We are so pleased to be able to continue our history of bringing world-class artists and their work to the region. We intend to build on that reputation with Critical Line.”
ArtRod continues to exhibit video and paper work at the Tollbooth Gallery, which is only two blocks from the new Critical Line space. In addition to these projects, ArtRod publishes the Toby Room magazine, and has recently acquired the Northwest Artist Registry, which will be showcasing regional artists in an online database.
ArtRod curator, Michael Lent says that, ”The vision of Critical Line is to meld traditional with non-traditional and develop exhibitions that are idea-based and conceptually strong allowing for creative exploration, experimentation, and exhibition in a space where artists are encouraged to take creative risks. Work that is being created now and next will be on view in regular rotation while working in conjunction with other ArtRod projects.”
Critical Line’s first public event will be the opening reception for the gallery’s inaugural exhibition ‘Found Space’ to be held on Friday, May 5 from 6-9pm.
‘Found Space’ brings together five artists who fragment, process, abstract and re-contextualize elements of public space with the intent of creating intimacy and sensations of individuality. The interdisciplinary work of Ido Fluk, Kevin Haas, EJ Herczyk, Matthew Keeney and Ann Kendellen jostle notions of video, printmaking, film, performance and photography. Each artist appropriates what is visible to all, and then purifies it through process in order to reveal the beauty of the overlooked. Their collective images originate in architectural spaces filled with density and noise, yet once processed these images exude isolation, quiet and individuality. The images presented are not born of private spaces, but ultimately through process and reinterpretation become private.
Found Space will be on view from May 5 - July 7, 2006. Critical Line is open Thursday through Sunday 12 – 6pm, third Thursday until 8pm and admission is free.
