Shedding Light On Top Dark Attractions
The Darkride and Funhouse Enthusiasts announce the top "dark attractions" as a result of its current member survey.
VIENNA, OH (PRWEB) April 11, 2006 -- The Darkride and Funhouse Enthusiasts (DAFE) recently released the results of their Fifth Annual Members Survey- Topping the list for the fifth consecutive year was Kennywood Park in West Mifflin, PA which received top honors as DAFE’s Favorite Dark Attraction Park- that is, an amusement park which has dark ride-through and/or funhouse related attractions.
Monticello, Indiana’s Indiana Beach Amusement Park’s Frankenstein’s Castle scared off other attractions to become number one on the list of Top Ten Favorite Walkthrough Attractions edging out Kennywood’s Noah’s Ark by one vote this year. Both attractions have been at the top of the list for the last four years.
For five years running, the Haunted Mansion (also known as the Haunted House) at Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg, PA has been named as DAFE's number one choice of the Top Ten Favorite Darkrides. Why does this ride at a small traditional amusement park always top the list of such well known attractions as Disney’s Haunted Mansion and Pirate’s of the Caribbean? DAFE director Rick Davis had this to say- “I think that the members of the Darkride and Funhouse Enthusiasts have a fondness for the traditional style of dark attraction as well as the fact that Knoebel’s Haunted House is always in perfect working order. In addition, the scenes and ‘gags’ are timed perfectly and provide a nice ride pace. Couple that with good sound effects and music and a park that is always trying to improve on the ride and you have an award winning combination. But don’t take this to mean that the members don’t like the more modern attractions, they DO! A look at the top ten lists shows an interesting blend of old and new, and of low tech and state of the art attractions.”
DAFE annually polls its membership on various issues, the highlight of which is asking members to name their favorite dark attractions-those walk through or ride through attractions related to funhouses and haunted houses from around the world. This year more than 90 attractions worldwide were nominated.
DAFE, which was founded October 31st, 2000, has approximately 280 members worldwide.
