New 'State-of-the-Yard' Hedge Trimmer Leaves Unruly Hedges Virtually Defenseless

The wintry weather has come and gone, and your bushes have been waiting patiently for the chance to take over your yard, block sunlight and spoil what used to be a great view. Fortunately, they are no match for the new Remington® Axcess Trimmer™.

Bowling Green, KY (PRWEB) April 15, 2006 -- The wintry weather has come and gone, and your bushes have been waiting patiently for the chance to take over your yard, block sunlight and spoil what used to be a great view. Fortunately, they are no match for the new Remington® Axcess Trimmer™.

Remington® is introducing the ultimate weapon against those rowdy hedges: a powerful trimming tool that features an extendable-reach pole with a pivoting head. This ‘Swiss army knife’ of yard tools lets you tackle low growth, unruly ground cover, normal hedges, basic tree pruning and even the tops of the hedges, all without breaking a sweat. And when it comes to trimming your really tall hedges, gone are the days of the annoying game of up-the-ladder, trim, down-the-ladder, move-the-ladder, up-the-ladder, trim, and repeat all over again.

A recent yard work survey commissioned by Remington and conducted by Harris Interactive® found that one-quarter (24%) of U.S. homeowners feel that trimming overgrown bushes, shrubs and hedges is the most difficult yard task to complete. “We’ve taken all of the tough yard chores and addressed them in one, lightweight and versatile tool,” says Remington Product Developer Bill Wetzel. “If Dirty Harry hated overgrown yards as much as he hated criminals, he’d have one of these.”

The Remington Axcess Trimmer is equipped with a powerful 3.0 amp electric motor, capable of 4,000 strokes per minute, which packs all the power needed for trimming shrubbery and branches up to ¾” in diameter. The handle telescopes, allowing you to reach up to ten feet, and the 17” dual action cutting head pivots up to 90 degrees in either direction and allows you to give that hedge a flat top even though it has a good four feet on you.

In addition, an electric trimmer gives operators the power they need without the hassle of mixing gas and oil. The other advantages that electric power holds over gas are its lightweight and instant starting capability, not to mention electricity’s environment-friendly nature.

The Remington survey also found that 42% of homeowners are kept from completing their yard work because they don’t have enough time. “Good-looking, well-manicured hedges take time, but nowhere near as much time as people think,” says Wetzel. “Now that we’ve combined all of these features in one powerful tool, making a huge difference in the appearance of your yard can actually take less time than mowing your lawn.”

Shrubs and hedges need seasonal trimming, but the first step this spring is about making shaping and size-reduction cuts to get the monstrous bushes under control. Hedges need proper care and that means re-shaping several times a summer; the Axcess Trimmer can help attain a beautiful yard all year long.

In addition to this powerful tool, Desa would like to offer the following tips from (Leading Landscaping expert) to help you get the best results when attacking your yard this spring.

Axcess to a beautiful yard is just a few steps away

o   Trimming of shrubs helps to keep them young and vigorous. Rather than cutting all branches off to an even length, prune out the older branches, even though they may be sound.

o   The way hedges are trimmed has a lot to do with their health. While a flat top looks great, it is easily damaged by snow and ice accumulating on top. A rounded top is better, for northern winters.

o   Hedges and large shrubs should be trimmed to slope outwards from top to bottom so that the leaves on the bottom also get sun.

o   Trim whenever the hedge begins to look ragged. Slow-growing hedges may only need 2 or 3 trims a year. Fast-growing hedges like privet may need several trims a year. How often you trim certainly depends on how important neatness is to you. Styles that depend on crisp, straight lines and flat planes need to be trimmed more often to maintain that look.

o   Keep in mind that the earlier in the year you trim, the more likely you are to stunt their growth if the weather turns cold again. So if you want a low hedge, prune early, then again several times throughout the season. If you want a larger, bushier hedge, wait till later in the growing season to make your first cuts and prune more rarely thereafter.
