Deadline Approaches for the iDance UK Hip Hop Crew Championships.

To help the UK stake its claim as an emerging force in Hip Hop Dance, Idance is searching for dance crews to represent the UK at the World Hip Hop Crew Championships in LA. Entries must be received by April 21, 2006 at PO Box 234, Watford, Herts. WD17 4XJ

Everywhere from the Sadlers Wells Theatre to your local gym or community centre, Hip Hop Dance is a happening form that is gathering fans and devotees from all walks of life. Since its birth in the USA it has swept the UK and is now massively popular as an activity.

On 21st May 2006 over a thousand people will gather at the Watford Colliseum to witness one of the most exciting events in urban street dance.

The best dance crews and individual dancers from all over the UK to go head to head, competing for a place at the World Championships that take place in California. The overall winner will also receive at £1000 bursary towards travel and accommodation to compete at the World Hip Hop Championship in LA.

Says event director Omar Paloma, “If you have been told your crew is phat, if you believe you have your own flava, if you love hip hop dance, if you like to have fun then you’re in for a treat. Come join us!”

The Idance UK Hip Hop Crew Championships is a family oriented dance event that draws its participants and audience from all areas of the United Kingdom. The audience are treated to amazing dance sequences, awe-inspiring tricks and a stimulating hip hop soundtrack.

About 30 crews, made up of a total of 5-12 dancers will perform in front of a live audience of over 1,100 people.

This year the Idance UK Hip Hop Crew Championships, sponsored in part by Sound Check Ltd. and Watford Council, will take place at the Colosseum in Watford, made world famous by the BBC orchestra, and films like Lord of the Rings for it's flawless acoustics.

After last years competition, five UK crews ranging from 7 to 24 years old, from East London, Telford, Cardiff, and Reading qualified and boarded a flight to LA to represent the UK at the World Championship in Los Angeles. Adult crew, Plague - London,UK came back as World Champions.

On 21st May we’ll find their successors.

Hip Hop International is recognized and respected worldwide for its special event and television broadcasts on ESPN and international networks in more than 170 countries.

Entry detail

There are two categories and three divisions for this event:

Category One will feature the best individual, duo, trio, and quartet groups in their battle to claim the right to call themselves the best in the UK.

Category Two, the highlight, will feature dance crews of between 5 and 12 dancers, in an Olympic style contest to see who will earn the right to represent the UK at the World Hip Hop Championship in Los Angeles. The divisions are Juniors aged 7-12, Varsity, aged 13-17 and Adults aged 18+
