KUA Wins Five International Communications Awards

Kissimmee Utility Authority, Florida's sixth largest community-owned electric utility, was honored in The Communicator Awards 2006 Print Competition for its annual report, hurricane handbook and commemorative poster.

Kissimmee, Fla. (PRWEB) April 11, 2006 -– The Communicator Awards has announced its choices for the best in printed communications for 2005, and Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) is proud to be the recipient of five awards, including three for its annual report.

The Communicator Awards is an international awards program that honors excellence in printed communications. Entries are judged by communications professionals who look for companies and individuals whose work meets a high standard of excellence and serves as a benchmark for their respective industries.

There were 5,214 entries received from throughout the United States and several foreign countries in this year's competition.

KUA received an award of excellence for the printed version of its 2005 annual report, an award of excellence for the interactive online version and an award of distinction for the report’s photography.

Developed as a public information resource, the 48-page annual report, titled "A Lifetime of Power," pays tribute to the Roy E. Hansel diesel plant which was decommissioned in September after 104 years of continuous service. The report is available online at http://www.kua.com/corporate/press/reports.

The utility received an award of distinction for its 2005 Osceola Hurricane Handbook. The 36-page handbook is packed with important information on hurricanes and floods, plus helpful Osceola County phone numbers, a disaster supplies checklist and a storm tracking chart.

The handbook, available in both English and Spanish, can be downloaded at http://www.kua.com/hurricane.

Finally, an honorable mention was awarded to the utility for a commemorative poster that was developed to mark the decommissioning of the Hansel plant. Free copies of the 24" x 36" black and white poster are available upon request.

Other notable winners this year include Amazon.com, Costco Wholesale, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Southern Company and The Scripps Research Institute.

KUA has earned 176 local, state, national and international communication awards for public relations programs, events and publications since 1995.

Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
